Police tackling dangerous driving have stopped and fined a lorry driver for watching a movie on the M20.
Roads policing officers who stopped the man said he could only see a small fraction of the road every time he glanced at his laptop screen.
Supt Andrew Reeves said the trucker, stopped near Maidstone, was fined £300.
He said any momentary lapse in concentration, such as looking at a device, could have disastrous and life-changing consequences.
Dangerous antic, could have easily killed someone or caused a major incident at best. £300 is just pathetic. Very least I would have expected was a ban and points. As bad if not worse than drink driving.
He could not get a ban or points, as that would mean a court appearance at a later date.
He would not show up.
Hence the £300 fine, which is punitive to an EE driver, where a job in EE is about 70 euros per week wages .
For a UK court appearance, he would have to be arrested and see the judge the next day.
The police would waste time driving the lorry to a compound that could be miles away.
