Does anyone remember the Kelloggs/BRS contract in Trafford Park around the late eighties?
BRS ran the new distribution centre on Ashburton Road West. The new fleet were red DAF2800 with sleeper pods, four wheeler chassis, pulling an A frame draw bar trailer and demount bodies advertising the various Kelloggs products. So you would see a Corn Flakes and a Coco Pops or Rice Krispies and Pop Tarts. The A frames were phased out later in favour of centre axle trailers.
One sub contractor was T & T Thompson from Glazebury had several Mercedes motors running in their own blue and white livery.
At the time, I was working on Guinness Road, walking past the yard every morning and night as a young lad saying to myself, one day…
Anyway, the lads in green have got the place now.
Yes thats the ones! Any more, Tidderson? You must be local?
Hi BEANIE
Yes I remember the red DAFS , they were 2500 not 2800 and you can see that in the photo , I was on A frame drawbars for Habitat in Oxford Brs Depot and we were always waving to the Kelloggs drivers , don’t know why just did , I was trying to fuel up one day in Manchester and thought I would follow a Kelloggs Daf to the Brs depot ,only problem was he went to the factory
, security tried to make me reverse back out on the road !!! with a drawbar
, any how after a bit of light talking he let me spin round in the yard , keep the photos coming . regards jakey
