Does anyone remember the Kelloggs/BRS contract in Trafford Park around the late eighties?
BRS ran the new distribution centre on Ashburton Road West. The new fleet were red DAF2800 with sleeper pods, four wheeler chassis, pulling an A frame draw bar trailer and demount bodies advertising the various Kelloggs products. So you would see a Corn Flakes and a Coco Pops or Rice Krispies and Pop Tarts. The A frames were phased out later in favour of centre axle trailers.
One sub contractor was T & T Thompson from Glazebury had several Mercedes motors running in their own blue and white livery.
At the time, I was working on Guinness Road, walking past the yard every morning and night as a young lad saying to myself, one day…
Anyway, the lads in green have got the place now.
God memories
There was a Ginger lad called Tony, I remember that he drove one of the W&D’s with another lad who was very darker in skin tone shall we say …the loaders thought it would be funny one night to load the DM De-mountable boxes … Co Co pops for the coloured chap and Tony the Tiger Frosties boxes for Tony
The nice thing was the boys really thought it was funny and enjoyed it … couldn’t get away with it now though
