Keeping track of working hours

Hi guys, I’m starting a new job on Monday and am more than likely going to be driving a truck with an anologue tacho head. Having only ever had trucks with digi tachos which admittedly made it easy for me  , I was wondering which is the best way to keep track of driving hours, breaks, etc.?

My father swears by his Tachtrak but are there any better alternatives available?

I’ve found http://www.tachodisc.co.uk/tachograph-products/vehicle-accessories/driver-hours-guard-2 from Tachodisc which seems to have plenty of features, does anybody have any experience of it?

Cheers,
Andrew

My dad is the same he swears by it too, had it for years lol

My respects to those whove took the time to design em, but Ive had 3 DHGs of varying descriptions, non of which I use now. IMO they fall short of my requirements. Save your money, Get a BIG time - timer or similar, & set yourself up a spreadsheet on your computer for record keeping. Spreadsheets aint as daunting as you think, just think of them as a basic calculator, and you can set them out in a format your familier with.

You can get a salter timer from argos its got 4 seperate timer countdowns so you can set driving tine duty and poa its really good and only 9 quid

or

Both work for me.

Thanks for the replies, dad’s just given me the technosolutions hours guard that he bought a while back as he can’t figure it out  so I’ll be giving that a try but I’m going to be keeping written records as well just incase I ■■■■ it up too

I’ve got a big timer so that’ll be handy for keeping track of the actual driving time with regards to taking breaks, just as long as i remember to press the button

Be careful if a while back is more than about three years, remember the rules changed in April 2007 so that Hour’s Guard might not be programmed with the current regulations.

Bit of a reversal of rolls here, I’m on a digi as of toady but up until a couple of weeks ago I used a stop watch costing a tenner in the sports shop for my driving hours, I set it at 9 hours to start with & watch it for my 4 1/2 hours. I then time my rest breaks on the countdown timer of my phone. I have used the countdown on the phone for my hours & the stopwatch on the phone for my breaks when the battery on my stopwatch has gone. I got one of my kids to draw up a spreadsheet on the computer to record the hours for WTD.

i know the regs are a bit different
