Keedwell Assessment Hensall

Hello, just wondered as an inexperienced class1 driver, what exactly to expect. I’ve seen lots of negative comments and have no wish to read them again about the company. It’s great they give newbies a chance imo. However if I don’t do well in the assessment I’m bluggered. Thanks in advance for any help or insights

Well then you should stop asking questions and reading crap online
You are a new driver and have been trained, there is nothing different about a assessment it basic stuff you should know and common sense

A translation of that might be:
You’ve passed your test, therefore you can drive as well as any newbie. They can see you’re new, and won’t be expecting a blindside reverse, in high range, whilst you’re updating faceache, and shaving with a cut-throat razor.
Don’t fret too much. You’ll be OK.
.
And if you’re not lucky, you will not be put against a wall and shot, you get another go somewhere else later.

The DVSA deemed you a driver so you can do it.Mirrors mirrors mirrors

Just do as you did on test mate… Only this time you know your now legally able to do so, so worry not [emoji6]

Take ya time, and if you’ve any doubts/questions just ask.

As for the drive…enjoy it, simple as that.

If you’ve a taut trailer, which is likely for the firm your heading too then open it up an be ABSOLUTELY sure all well an secure if cargo on board, and whilst there make sure its got the rear plate on!!
Dont forget to point out your trailer height, cab marker, and be sure to show them that the fifths secure, clips in and trailer brakes not been pulled on for a laugh!!

Just walk round it, and make sure all your lines are in/on and everythings legal as can be, safe, and secure.

Get comfy in the cab, do all the checks you would and if they want you to drop/swap then do your ‘black routine’ and again just take your time.

If your reverse is a bother DONT worry, any decent accessor will be a driver themselves and all the one’s I’ve had have been top blokes only too willing to offer help, so again just take ya time.

Not sure on the routes, or directions… ASK[emoji6]

Other than that, best of British fella [emoji482]

The good thing about Keedwells is that if they think you need a little more experience they will send someone out with you for a couple of days

I have no idea who it is in Hensall but Devizes had a guy called Dave who was fantastic and gave me a lot of help when I was starting out

Don’t let anyone knock your confidence. Take it slowly, use your mirrors and read your driver’s hours regulations. You should be fine

Many thanks, all good replies thank you. All that’s been said is pretty much what I thought; but no harm in asking and trying to be as well prepared as possible. Cheers

I did one at Highbridge

Hook up to a trailer, go out for a drive

Back into a bay

I took about 5 shunts to do it, they said we’ll give you extra training but you’ve got the principal idea!

In other words, pretty straightforward stuff

Make sure you do your pre-use checks properly. If he says “don’t worry about it I did it earlier” he’s trying to catch you out. Just politely say you would rather do it yourself to be sure the vehicle is legal.

Take your time, try and keep calm. when doing a reverse they won’t be expecting miracles as they are aware you’re new. If you need to get out and look then do, better to get out and check than hit something.

All the best

If you’re reversing a trailer between other trailers (Hensall doesn’thave marked bays), make sure you set yourself up correctly, because trailers are parked tight. If you go out for a drive, take care exiting the yard, and if you come back from the direction of the main road, take it easy going back in. Its tight and bumpy.

Check the trailer height, and remember that there is a low bridge down the road (left out of the gate).
Your new. Don’t be afraid to ask if you’re not sure. And yes, do a full walk around check. Keedwell are hot on that.
