Just wondering

Hi all,
So on my boring night trunk run i got thinking.

-Are DVSA allowed to pull over G4S and other money carrying trucks like them, if they suspect/can see something wrong with the truck?.. or even just a random stop?

-Say if i was moving house on a weekend and decided to hire a 7.5t truck just for personal use. Would i have to use a tacho? (And was driving for a living during the week before and after the weekend)

Tacho exempt when using 7.5 tonner for private use - that is why private horseboxes are rarely over 7.5 tonnes

I’m sure the likes of G4S won’t get a random pull at the side of the road. If vosa needed to stop them urgently, I imagine they would need to get police involved who in turn would notify G4S and a whole load of security protocols would need to be followed. Not worth the hassle unless completely necessary or urgent I would think.

We don’t carry cash, but we do carry interesting stuff and we have a sign that we can hold up saying that we will follow them to a specific site and a phone number to ring. We’ll stop at the regular DVSA sites, but not necessarily for someone randomly pulling over.

Thanks guys, the G4S thing got me wondering because i was overtaken by one last night and it had quite a lean on it, notes to one side coins to the other? Haha

theres more truth in that than you think

Going back to when I drove over there, if we hauled high value loads we were instructed not to stop for anyone but drive the nearest police station.

We were told to ring 999 and ask if they had a unit pulling the vehicle over… don’t stop until you have confirmation. If the operator confirms, then pull over somewhere safe, if they don’t, well you can expect a few real police cars to be en route.
We also had signs in the windscreen to show, saying we won’t stop until it’s been confirmed.
This was for petrol tankers.
Not sure how it would work with dvsa though as they don’t have an easily rememberable number to ring.

DVSA will save you the job of contacting the police, they will do it for whoever refuses to follow/stop for them.
