Friday booked on site to tip at 8;30am problems with crane and deciding how to lift my load off I eventually got tipped at 16;45 having spoke to my gaffer at least 8 times through the day I phoned up said I was tipped for him to say go load and tip in morning after expecting to be home and always home Friday night what would you guys tell the gaffer■■?
if it was a one off and not planned then I would take it on the chin , the boss wasn’t at fault but the customer was so play ball and give this one to the company as a freebie as you can always keep this for when you need something…
I’d probably of said.
Yep no worries see you when I’m back.
At the end of the day it’s not an unreasonable request at all. As has been said not your boss’ fault you’ve had a nightmare so just chalk one up to experience and remember you’ve done it for them.
What did you say?
A bit of give and take required, but you should at least have a favour ‘in the bank’ to call upon.
I’d just got on with it. One Friday night out so…

This^^^^
A good boss I would charge the company extra for the delay and give you a little extra Wonga for helping out
If there were problems with the crane and there were no other ways of getting it off I don’t see what else he could have told you if there was a backload already arranged.
I certainly wouldn’t have been jumping for joy if I was in your situation, but like others have said you can now use the old ‘I could do with an early finish on Friday boss’ at some point.
Your gaffer might have had that job lined up for you as soon as you’d tipped but it all went pear shaped. If your tramping it’s going to happen sometimes, part of the gig. Some brownie points might have been accrued as long as you don’t girn about it…
Hiya… well with there been thousends of driving jobs and no drivers, plus you can move from job to job i’d say
B…ks stuff you job where the sun don’t shine, left the truck where it was and thumed a ride home, then
again thinking hard and for myself(what drivers used to do)maybe if i go out of my way and show willing
i’ll help the boss out this time.he may do me a favior some other time.
I told him I wasn’t happy, and I would go for load but he could have told me slightly earlier as I spoke to him nearly every hour with a status report he said ill get back to you and he come back said come back empty so all was ok
ho and I lost £150 the week before due to broke down and been sent home while repairs were been done so wasn’t happy about that aswell

And that’s the bit that tells the rest of the story… Soooo. “Yep no problem boss I’ll sort out your problem as long as you refund the money I lost because of YOUR problem with my lorry last week”.
to say the least I was slightly ■■■■■■ off when I seen my wages as wernt my fault!!
Usual thing here trying to get the whole picture is like pulling teeth!

If it’s that kind of boss can see your point. If it’s a decent firm who look after you just take it on the chin ■■■■ happens.

No other replies required other than this ^^^
No it wasn’t the bosses fault but as you had kept him up to date he had time to Reschedule also is his buissness so if he had of managed to slip in an extra load would he have said good day Have half the extra profits don’t think so
Last he could have done is ask if you would mind
Some gaffers think they own you
Would let it slide if a one off, altho still be putting in my time sheet claiming for OT owed, overnight claim etc.
Think I would say your boss is guilty of bad communication, would not have went amiss to keep you in the loop
You drive a truck and I would think do a bit of distance work
transport + drama + distance= n/o…

Why do you lose money just because the truck is broken? you could still work
