I have registered with two new agencies this week and with both of them, one of the questions asked was along the lines of would you be prepared to do London routes or drops?
Yep I know London is a craphole, as indeed are many big towns and cities, but what problems that are specific to London is it that makes so many truck drivers and even some hauliers refuse point blank to go there…? Am just curious as to the reasons as never come across a question like this before on an application form…
What makes london bound loads different for me is that every london load I do will be to a tempory building/ construction site which aren’t known for having any space to get off the road so unless I can get on site or behind the cones in the unloading area of a street parking suspension there’s always the mither of getting a ticket .

And I hope your answer was “yes, but only for an enhanced pay rate.”
I got my job on food service a few years back because I mentioned I did London regularly at a previous job. So I was hired to do their new London locations. Was there Monday to Friday every week and was constantly told by the other drivers “I don’t do London”. I liked it as I did 7-8 drops a day compared to the other guys doing 25 drops round Bristol.
I like London but I find in order to have a more pleasent experience its best to adopt a more submissive driving style, im talking articulated 44t vehicles here not glorified vans.
London is no more than a multiple hazard environment best navigated by just tickling her along and being aware of the nutters around you. Cyclists are a law unto themselves and are best left to get on with it, then theres the motorcyclists and pedestrians, oh and cars etc.
Any major city (and some minor ones), can be just as bad, so sit back relax and enjoy the views (I mean the fanny obviously).
Dont be the idiot standing roadside exchanging details.
I did food service as a stop gap for about 6 months, 1st drop was Canterbury, then about 20 drops central London and then a pick up at Wembly and Park Royal. Quite enjoyed it.

Actually I put yes on one and no on the other, purely to compare and contrast responses
I don’t mind going anywhere once in a while, but wouldn’t want a daily trip into London or other busy city centres, as prefer rural to urban everytime. You know, those out of town industrial areas, where you take your breaks overlooking open fields and everyone is far more chilled out…
The problem with London is much of the time the same as every other town, although sometimes not quite so bad. The signposts are put up for those who know where they are going and not to help those who don’t. The destinations on the white local signposts do not mean a lot to someone looking for the way out of town. What is so frustrating is the near impossibility of being able to stop simply to get one’s bearings. The river doesn’t help either since it could be heading North, South, East or West.
