Backed up to bay in Godmanchester and as soon as it hit the rubbers the red light comes on. As I reach down to turn the ignition off I hear the ramp come down. Hmmm… some ones keen. Still expecting a wait, I grab my sandwiches along with the paperwork and walk the very short distance to the goods in. Hand in the paper work , ask them to tell the lads to leave two pallets at the headboard. “Go and tell them” they say. Wander into the wharehouse and I’m amazed to find a group of wild eyed polish lads gathered around the now emptied (apart from two pallets) trailer. They’d tipped me to less then 5 minutes! And no, I wasn’t late. Makes you wonder what Tossco’s and Amazon etc are up to when they take 3 hours to get two pallets off.

What they are “up to” is them not having any space to put the stuff. Until the stuff from the previous deliveries has been loaded onto Tesco trailers at the other side then you will sit there for as long as is necessary until they have the space available, hence all the ‘mobile storage’ comments you read.
I tipped in tesco purfleet last Xmas. 26 pallets of wine. Got to the gate on my booking time gave them the number they said to me bay whatever it was right down the end of the building so off I trundle onto the bay. Walk upto the waiting room and there are the usual desperate drivers faces and I’m thinking to myself “here we go” hand my paperwork in they stamp it and give it back to me along with my exit code along with “all done drive have a good Xmas” stood there in shock and actually had to ask if they had the right driver and bay. Yep all done 10 minutes start to finish!!! Thank you tesco

26 pallets of wine… all done 10 minutes
Rearrange these words; party, Christmas, management.

The look on my face was like I had just walked away from a plane crash and I was the only survivor. I did slap myself in the face to make sure I wasn’t dreaming and to be fair I have been in there a few times and the longest I’ve ever waited is 40 minutes.

Thats spot on. Is often said that modern ‘logistics’ are very efficient, and maybe thats true but the trade off is that actual road transport and deliveries is not very efficient. As far as delivering to RDC’s goes anyway.
