…about a recent post from welshboyinspain saying that steel haulage from Spain to Germany is very busy just now. Why? What’s happened to the German steel industry in the Ruhr valley for instance? Is it that Spanish steel is cheaper/better or both than the home grown variety
steel is not just steel ,just as, I used to take Argon GAS 3x a week into the UK
BECAUSE WE HAD A BETTER QUALITY OR A SPECIAL NITROGEN that was
so good it was used in the makeing of the chips, the germans export steel for
all uses but they also import lots scrap taken from GERMANY to ITALY
went back later as certified german quality steel for use in the industry

don’t know if it makes a difference but its Stainless Steel not “ordinary” steel
plus the steelworks are in algeciras but they have their own warehouses and cutting, shaping facilities that we deliver to so its just from factory to warehouse rather than to any customers.
they’ve got 1 in UK, darlaston
2 in germany Langenfeld and rottweil
2 in belgium
2 in holland
1 in denmark
1 in sweden
2 in italy
1 in swiss
3 in france
very big worldwide company
Very odd as it may seem, there is a bit of an economic recovery going on. I know we are all a bunch of doom mongers on here but car sales are going up, the stock markets are up 70 and 80% from there lows and things are not quite as bad as they looked 12 months ago. On top of that more of the demand seems to be in northern europe, so companies like Acerinox in spain are sending more of there production north.
Although the factory in Genk went on short time for a couple of months last year,we never noticed any downturn in the work we do out of there.
We load stainless steel coils and sheets for all over Germany and France and usually load around 8-10 trailers a day.

I don’t remember anywhere where the doors are lettered, but SML (Staal Magazijn Limburg) is just off the Zuiderring, between Haven Genk and the old football ground where all the Turks used to park.
Or,Arcelor Mittal is just around the corner and is the biggest steel works in Genk. Then alongside the canal is Arcelor Tailored Blank/Sikel,then just around the corner from there is another Arcelor place-SCL (Staal Centre Limburg).
We load out of all of them.
