"Just take it.." (without tacho chart)

So, wondering what your thoughts are on the following…

This morning I was to take truck A to do one drop then drop it off at another site and pick up another and do 3 more drops. No problems so far.

Hopped into truck A to discover it’s an analogue tacho. Had a hunt in the cab for a fresh chart and couldn’t find one. Lots of used but no new. Told just take it. It’s OK. It’s not one of the trucks we normally use. I said I still need a tacho or its going nowhere. I was double manned with another guy who was going to drive it without a chart but managed to find one.

Can’t say I’m too pleased at the attitude of just take it!

Jump ship, mate. Not acceptable.

The day you do “just take it” will be the day you meet a DVSA man. You better have of brought the lub because he will have you! Its your licence, don’t take no crap from anyone!

That’s unacceptable. Ask for signed, written statement authorising you to “just take it”. They’ll soon back down.

If you have no fresh charts to take from the office or the truck that is not your problem. It’s theirs.

As above, no need to risk your licence for some cowboys

Get away from that company! sound like idiots just remember its your licence!

Just as I expected you to say and totally agree. Thanks for confirming my thoughts. There is also a culture of tip on break then take a quick stop afterwards whilst tacho is on other work.

just remember if you get caught its you that gets shafted, the company will plead ignorant to everything! Because they are ■■■■■■■■■ :stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldn’t do it, but then again I always have analogue tachos on me…
Proper prior planning and all that

You should always keep your own emergency tacho’s in your bag, that is what I do, eliminates
these problems cos it is you who will get done…

I see, do you provide your own engine oil too? Just in case?

No, but I would carry some which the company had supplied.

No one has suggested that he buy his own tacho charts, just that he should get a handful from his work and keep them in his bag. The same applies for printer paper as you don’t want to be relying on there being any in the vehicle.

I’ve accumulated a nice stock of printer rolls. When I come across another analogue I’ll accumulate some of the charts too!

Glen I’ll carry whatever they want to provide me to carry. If there were no charts in the truck that’s fine, there ■■■■■■■ well should have been some in the office/stores. If there wasn’t I’d be off home in a jiffy.

Because if they can’t look after their paperwork, they are unlikely to be able to look after their trucks are they? :unamused:

Ps they would be paying me for that day too.
