As the title says I have just done 8 hours just under half way before my test.
I’d say everything is going fine apart from roundabouts, I’m finding it hard to judge where I am, so instead of looking ahead for hazards and lane layouts I’m finding myself looking a lot in my mirrors to judge how close or far away from the white line I am.
Think of roundabouts as a series of bends. 99% of them start with a left bend then, if you’re going straight ahead or to the right, a right bend ending with a left bend. So it’s left, right, left. For a left bend, your position needs to be towards the white line on your right. How close will depend on the wheelbase of your vehicle, the severity of the bend and the width of your lane. But it’s unlikely you’ll have a great problem if you position just shy of the white line.
Do this in good time. Now, having got your position, you’ve got all the time in the world to look onto the roundabout, adjust your speed as necessary and take the first proper opportunity to get on the roundabout.
I interpret your issue as having too much to do at the same time. The method above should help. Give it a go and let us know how you get on.
Only thing I’d add (or rather emphasize) is that if you slow down in plenty of time, and get in a gear that would allow you to keep going if required, then you actually have time to look at the mirrors and get your positioning correct and make a sensible decision about whether to go or stop.
The speed you need to slow down to is much slower that you initially think is slow enough, and much slower than you would in a car.
BTW if that is your only issue you are doing well. Keep up the good work!
