JUST REALISED.

I earn the same money at an agency, am home in my bed every night, none of this “as and when” ■■■■■■■■.
No bank holidays, or weekends. No uniform, no van washing after every shift. No sleeping in old, draughty 7.5tonners. No sleeping across seats. No having to do scraps cos’ the ■■■ lickers get the cream.
And I miss my old job because? ■■■■ that!

When I was on agency on the airport, I was taking MORE home than I do now.

And I had regular start times, and home every night.

BUT, 1 week they said “don’t need you tomorrow”, then the next week I had 2 days ‘stood down’ (although they phoned me at 8am to work 1 of those, but I was already busy)

This is regular money, get paid for bank hols off, xmas off, etc, and the job’s quite easy.
Ok, I have to do the odd night out, but that’s not always a bad thing

Wait untill after Christmas

I did four years on agency. Mostly working for one company (Blakes) and getting the 5, 6, 7am starts I wanted. Then it all changed and we only got the 2am or 2pm starts so I took an offer I had from Avon on general haulage and Palletforce. No more 15 hour days and home indoors in time for tea. Less money but more happiness.

Sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t so make yourself known at the places the agency send you so that, come the day, they will remember you as a good, reliable driver.

Won’t last forever, enjoy it while you can.

Might be an idea to get something full time before the financial crap hits the fan early next year.

I’ve done me stint on agencies, found most of them to be admin staffed by liars and con men only worked for one good bloke and that was years ago, my full time (cars mainly but other specialised work too) jobs have paid far in excess of agency.

Agency lads who go self employed might be taking good money home, well they go on about it enough, how they fare when they come to retire if they haven’t made sufficient pension provision is the real question.

I found that once I’d been there several months, proved my worth and was happy to accept anything then I never seemed to have a shortage of work after Xmas. Also for those lucky to get a long placement with firms tend to be OK after Xmas too.

However if you’re one of those tossers who refuses to do any jobs that you have to drive out of town for, turn up in your best baggy joggers, knackered rigger boots and grease black hi-viz coat and whinge and whine because you’ve not been given the brand new delivery mileage truck or that you might have to, shock horror, manually wheel pallets to the back of the trailer with a pump truck then you will be sat at home from January to April.

State pension, pension credit, council tax and housing benefit. When you do the sums you wonder who is the mug when it comes to paying into a pension.

Already been offered full time. Just gotta deal with the agency now.

Well we know as working people that we’re going to get bent over, that’s always been the case, always will be far as i can tell.

However stubborn self pride and self worth makes us do it, are we mugs, probably but mugs who can stand up and look others in the eye.

I have nothing but contempt for benefit scrounger low lifes, many of whom have never done a days bloody work and never will, what galls me about these scum is that they have the nerve to call themselves ‘working class’…i don’t include people with physical or mental problems in this by my standards tiny rant…
