Congratulations!

Gist pays the best hourly rate round Spalding but Fowler Welch has a better overtime rate if you work the hours and the weekends. I have heard Fowlers are getting “flexible” over the 2 years so might be worth enquiring sooner if you get some experience.

Best of luck! Merry Christmas to you to

Thanks for heads up, I’ve had a few other people say gist are the best paying in spalding too, also heard they want your flesh for pound, i’m not afraid of hard work though so bit of graft doesn’t put me off whilst I’m still in me 20’s, I just want to make sure that if I’m going to leave a big company that’s been good enough to take me on with no experience, at an age that 90% of haulage insurers won’t accept, been good enough to train me, that I leave them for a company that I won’t regret getting with. I’m in spalding, the turners depot im going for is in bicker, that’s about 20-30 mins drive depending on traffic for okish pay, but you obv know spalding enough to know it has gist, fowlers, freshlinc, Robsons, garn, midas, etc etc, there’s an abundance of firms to choose from, right on my doorstep almost, and if I can get to work in 2-5mins drive with an increase in take home pay, then I want in… Im leaning towards gist but I’m not dead cert. Well I spose I better work on actually securing a job first though eh.

They pay well and want something for it so can’t be surprised. Heard Fowlers is pretty rough to so need to bear that in mind. I agree about first job because you also have to remember that being new (and your user name  ) there is a strong chance to screw up and do you want to do that in the best job? Screw up in the bad job then move on to the better one with the lessons learnt.

Just out of interest are you going direct or through the agency? I have been told that the agency are so desperate that you will get in so long as you don’t actually hit anything on the assessment drive, read into that what you will

Direct. I’ll be glad to not have to touch an agency through my whole driving career. I HATE agencies.

I’m working for a agency just while I wait for my job to start in Jan. I am doing class 2 as they won’t let me drive class 1 due to experience, which is stupid as my actual employer has employed me as class 1… anyway the jobs the agency have given me are not actually too bad, palletwork no hand balling, not very hard. I am lucky and if I don’t feel like working I don’t do it. I feel like I’ve been lucky with all these horror stories I hear, I’m yet to be paid this week so time will tell, but so far not too bad. Eventually you will find somewhere just stick with it, I feel like I got my main job as I literally barged into the transport office keen as mustard and even offered to do some yard shunting and truck washing to get my foot in the door, which the gaffer seemed to like (he did say I don’t actually need to do any of that though).
