Dear Adrian Alexander, Barbara Beeley and Valerie Sedgwick,
As a lorry driver i am welcomed in most places so i can deliver good to the shelves, no problem there.
When said good are delivered which can take 1 hour to 9 hours or more I then find that due to 2 sets of regulations i have to by law adhere to i need some where to take a 30/45 minute or 11 hour daily rest period break so i am rested and can safely carry on my journey.
as Oldham used to be a big favourite to stay due to a lorry park and other amenities i find it difficult to understand why this no longer exists.
What is seriously needed is safe secure parks for visiting drivers to enable them to comply with the regulations and also to the safety of the truck its load ,its fuel and most important the driver.
As with the mass building of major distribution sites perhaps within the granting of planning etc they should be a rule to include a certain amount of parking facilities for trucks.its not uncommon for a trUck to arrive at say 08.00 and depart at 15.00 so 7 hours plus travelling time means said driver is nearly out of hours and maybe tired which could result in accidents etc.
in other word, a firm wants to build a big distribution park and will be required to also build a lorry park which will result in the following benefits.
1, trucks not parked overnight on laybys that are not suitable and very dangerous
2, trucks not parked where there are no toilet facilities so human waste is left there.
3,loads and diesel not stolen every night.
4,driver safety taken into account
5.trucks not parked on industrial ests or side road causing inconvenience to local.
6 truck drivers being treated more like human beings than something you trod in on the pavement left by a dog (sorry to be graphic)
I am a truck driver and do feel we are treated as with total disregard by everyone (some which we may deserve) but do feel no one is taking us seriously.I hate the way we are banned/persecuted for trying to do our jobs which is to deliver goods onto the shelves so the people of this country can enjoy their lifestyle.
PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL IF YOU ARE JUST PAYING LIP SERVICE.
A COPY OF THIS AND YOU REPLY OR FAILURE TO REPLY WILL BE POSTED ON A VERY VERY POPULAR WEBSITE AS WILL OTHER EMAILS FROM OTHER MEMBERS OF THIS SITE.
ALL WE ASK IS SOMEWHERE TO PARK SAFE AND SECURE (WE DONT MIND PAYING) SO WE CAN RETURN SAFELY TO OUR FAMILIES AT THE END OF OUR WORKING WEEK,
IS THIS REALLY TO MUCH TO ASK FOR.
Yours sincerely,
…just a guy who has driven trucks for 43 years.

Look at it from their point of view… Even with no-limit funding, how exactly and what exactly would you engineer here?
Just playing devil’s advocate here…
From my own point of view, I reckon it remains easier to socially engineer these type of problems and their solutions rather than actually create something brand new as infrastructure.
The social way of dealing with it would be:
(1) Protectionism. All foreign goods importing must be left at ports and harbours for the new masses of British Inland freight-forwarding firm’s trucks to distribute around the country to…
(2) DEPOTS - Lots more of them, and in every large town’s industrial estates… trunked between by dedicated
(3) NIGHT TRUNKERS who actually get paid a night shift instead of crappy day rates and a piddling little £25 night out allowance, worth less than £3ph…
(4) DAY drivers continue to distribute goods from depot to local businesses and private addresses in rigids.
Thus, the laybys up and down the country would be only used for night trunkers taking 45’s rather than foreigners and trampers spending 9+ hours there at a time…With a layby full of drivers taking 45’s, there would always be someone awake who’d notice any likely lads approaching with drills and stirrup pumps, etc. The layby would have been re-claimed by the trucker once more!
(No one is going to ask questions of the pi key lying in the layby gutter with the crap kicked out of him in the mornings either. )
All you’d have to do to make this happen is charge incoming trucks from the continents £1000 entry fee at the port of entry. This doesn’t cost the taxpayer a bean, and may well turn a tidy profit to boot! Open private business would lap up the new business environment and do the rest… ie build all the depots, take on all the drivers full time, poach for higher wages the best of them, and no foreign trucks in laybys means you can actually rely on parking there for your 45 when on nights halfway up and down the country…
The councillors will just kick your message around 'til it gets lost.
Lorries are for delivering beans to housing estates.
The Etonians who run the country think their partridge, mushrooms
and quail eggs arrive on the table by magic Rolls Royce.

These days it’s Ethiopians running for the country whilst
Lorries delivering for beans by drivers that are old enough to remember the partridge family
running scared of the sky being full of mushrooms
especially when delivered by a large aircraft with rolls royce engines,
and nukes imrproved by the discovery of fusion power shrunk to the size of quail eggs…
ok… that last line was a bit weak on usage. Who remembers doing them quintrain things as a kid?

we dont it wont
so do it
I like it but the bit where you said about things being published on here did sound a bit threatening; you want them to want to help you (they’re not all ■■■■■■■■■■ now you’ve forced their hand a bit.
Also, with respect, there were a few typos, no problem on here but in a formal communication doesn’t look that good

Dear Adrian Alexander, Barbara Beeley and Valerie Sedgwick,
…just a guy who has driven trucks for 43 years.
Your MP can do jack ■■■■, just like your 43 years counts for sweet FA. Incase you didn’t know your MP’s might be able to ask questions or to try to bring to book a public authority that has flouted some laws. In this case, they (or no one has) have flouted no laws. You think asking them is going to change anything? Write to the tooth fairy, it might be more productive !!!
Our rules and laws are mainly set at EU level, in the form of Directives. These Directives HAVE to be incorporated into law.
So, whats bad about that? Nothing really, most of the EU regs, directives or whatever only seem good to me. Problem is accountability for them. So if you have a problem with an EU directive, get onto your MEP , right?
Now, whats good about Scotland being an Independant country? (hope i’m not sidetracking this topic too much!), making their own laws (as they pretty much do now), making local based descisions without regard to what the rest of the UK/EU are doing, acting in their own best interests? Anyway, even if i’ve got the wrong end of the stick, the bit i havn’t got wrong is this…
Your MP cannot do anything. Your own council is controlled by central government and its policies. And ultimately, your employer is responsible for where you park and what facilities you have. Ever wrote a letter to your employer? No i thought not, write one to your MP eh? Its gonna get results without you upsetting the boss and everythings gonna be fine?
No one say anything to the boss, just write to an MP who can do ■■■■ all !! Thats called truck logic !!
so after arriving at 08:00 and leaving at 15:00 from an rdc, you would then need somewhere to park up to take your 45 ■■?. And you would feel tired after doing jack all for several hours.Or have i read the OP wrong?
Silver_Surfer:
All industrial estates should have to have a free truck park by law. Wouldn’t the world be a better place then?
Yes, in an ideal world it would be. Unfortunately, these places degenerate into magnets for lowlife so fast.
And you’d have JF blocking it up for days/weeks
The UK is a joke for the transport industry,it is 20 years behind the times with proper facilities for drivers to park safe and ear well after a honest days graft.
The French Rouitiers, free parking, set priced five course meals for 10 to 20 Euros.
Lgvs are allowed to park in hotel parking areas all over Europe.
The hotel gets revenue from drivers.
For a discounted rate,i would pay for a room, have a hot bath in the winter months or air con in the room in the summer.
When you are living in the cab for months on end,a special treat is worth it.
The German truckstops are a different world to what UK drivers have to put up with in the UK.
The restaurant in Germany may have attractive staff dressed in traditional rural uniform, the food is fit for a King.
All UK councils hate trucks, have a look on the thread titled “Bolunteers required”.
Nimbies doing their best.
