Just had Medical (My story from the start)(1st shift:-))

Hard Lines Captain!

At least you know the two majors were totally un-avoidable. :unamused:

On the plus side with only 8 minors you would’ve passed!

Nail it next time - hope it goes well!!!

Thats real unlucky, at least you knew what you had done, and can make sure the same thing doesnt happen next time, we often make stupid mistakes when under pressure! Best of luck with the re-test, I’m sure everything will go OK for you

Cheers

Steve

Yeah its a good ploy that  I had trouble with tight turns while I was learning, and asked the Instructor to take me on as many as possible the day before the test - it was pretty hairy, VERY tight l.handers, chicanes, the lot, but showed me I could do it, and the turns on the test route were nothing compared to what I had done the day before!

All the best for Thurs!

Cheers

Steve

Just got back from test.

PASSED

7 minors same examiner as list time i had couple of moments were i thought i had ballsed it up.

Felt fantastic when he said the ‘pleased to tell you’ bit.

That was my initial intension but after driving the rigids for the 1st time only 13 days ago i think it may be more beneficial for me to get some experience driving big trucks. Once i’m fully confident doing that then all i have to think about is that 40ft trailer behind me.

Also need to earn some money to pay for the course and with xmas not far away C+E will have wait till at least march next year.

I will be only be driving 2 days a week at most till then, so i will try not to big up to many bad habbits.

i know what you mean about driving rigids, i was the same i’d only driven cars up until september when I took my Class 2, I just wanted to get straight in there, obviously there is the cost as well like you say, but anyway, good luck with whatever you do anyway fella

Update 31st Oct

Had my 1st shift today how good did i feel.

Agency called at 11:30 for a 14:30 start, jumped at the chance even though it meant arranging for my daughter to be picked up from school.
Couldnt believe it when i turned up - the office guys had the usual humour just smile and go with the flow  . Then they asked which run i wanted, i was dropping off a truck and bringing one back they had 2 runs I must of been the 1st driver there.
Anyway I choose the my run and they chuck me the keys. I walk round the corner and look for my Number plate, loads of Tractor units and a coulple of rigids. Then i saw my plate and it was a tractor unit :open_mouth:, My 1st thought was i cant drive that im only Class 2, the office assured me i could as there was no trailor. I had to ask the old guy floating around the yard about the gearbox as it was completley different to what i had trained in it was a 4 over 4 with low and high splitter making 16 gears :open_mouth: . The guy showed me it - it was fine, not having anything behind me meant i only really need 5-8 EASY  .
The run went fine i felt like king of the road with no-one sat beside me.
The only downside of the whole run was that i had to take my 45 min break because i was about 15 mins over 4.5 hrs driving.
In total i did 6 hrs nice easy 1st shift got the 8 hrs pay though.
Overall i am very pleased with my 1st day BUT i hope that i dont keep getting tractor units as i would like to start getting something behind me and driving proper lorrys.
This thread started exactly 10 weeks ago- the day of my medical now ive done my 1st shift i feel great lets just hope the works keeps coming.
