Just booked my weeks course

Just booked my weeks cat c training with a company called Twinway near Darlington seen there vans all over Darlington.
Im having to work it around my full time job with holidays etc, but what ive noticed there are loads of people who try to tell you not to do it, put you down etc, think of how much its going to cost you!
I work for a large retail company and use DHL for deliveries and most of the drivers say go for it its the best thing you will ever do, but had one old boy yesterday who was going at it to do his best to put me off saying theres no money in it. Its gonna cost you a fortune to do it, you only get a decent pay packet if you are doing 60 hours a week I really felt like slashing up lol.
It seems to be the younger lads who deliver to us who are like just do it and it will be the best thing you ever do! I suppose it wont be a easy ride and I will need a little bit of luck along the way - But people do put you down - I suppose one thing is I wont know until I try it!!!

They do not seem to have a website but found this - yell.com/biz/twinway-lgv-dri … 901359196/

Good luck fella!

Keep an eye out for BOBS and GOBS (Boys on Bikes and Girls on Bikes) and stretch the neck muscles for you will be looking in mirrors ALOT

This is it, you have to decide is it something you want to do because you just really want to or is it just about trying to earn decent or better money?

You will never know for sure until you’ve done it. Investing in yourself is never a waste of time or money.

Will it make you a millionaire? No.

Will you enjoy it and find your working days that bit better because you’re not doing what you’re doing now? You won’t know till you try (same as me). Just because it didn’t work for the naysayers doesn’t mean it won’t work for you.

Good luck!

The school isn’t. This is the appropriate link dft.gov.uk/fyn/lgv.php

IF the instructors are, they should make it clear.

Personally I would be asking for proof.

TWINWAY? FFS.

I hope you haven’t paid up front for it.

Let us get this clear - this is not a training school - it is one guy in an old truck. He works for Fred Foster (that is who you will make the cheque out to) from a rough old transport yard in Coundon, patrolled by an underfed Alsation dog.

I tried them - and what a shower they are. Are they still running that knackered old Volvo with its age hidden by a numberplate?

I had no idea just how bad they are until I subsequently went to a proper trainer.

Needless to say I failed my Class 2 with them - and subsequently went on to pass Class 2 and Class 1 with another (proper) training school.

Their ‘instructor’ spent most of my last 2 lessons on his mobile phone. On the day of my test he didn’t allow enough time for us to get back to Darlington test centre - we arrived 7 minutes after the test was due to start and the examiner was standing outside waiting for us.

Before we had even left the yard he asked me to show how I would wash the windscreen. I pressed the screen washer button and guess what … Yep, not a drop of water in it. That was when he said, this truck is not up to test standard but did allow me to top up the screen wash bottle and continue.

After a start like that I was completely on the wrong foot and I never recovered.

After I had failed the test, this ‘instructor’ asked me to drive the truck back to the yard as he “Had a couple of phone calls to make”.

As I said, FFS, I hope you haven’t paid up front for it.

Good luck - you will need it.

Hi Pete, theres no DSA registered schools in the northeast what would you suggest?

I made the journey to Mansfield and trained with Peter Smythe. Pete provided free accommodation (B&B) locally to him. I wish I had gone there initially - I would have been £800 better off.

The difference between these two ‘training schools’ was unbelievable - Pete’s instructors ARE DSA registered, his trucks are new and the test was carried out from his own premises.

When I went back 4 weeks later to do my Class 1, Pete even paid for my wife and I to stay for the three days and ate with us one night (and he paid for the meal).

I know he is giving you advice on here at present and I suggest you consider doing what I did.

Good luck

Alan

teeside lgv training in middlesbrough are very good i did c and c+e with them

Alan has answered for me. Either travel or take pot luck. Simple as that. Sorry.

Pete

with regards twinway driving school in coundon i have nothing but the upmost of praise for fred and his staff, i have personally sent 4 of my drivers to twinway and every driver passed first time , i found twinway not only very competative on price but also will give a honest assesment as to how much training each pupil will require, myself and several other local hauliers would certainly go nowhere other than twinway for driving tuition
