The other thing with parcels is that nowadays some ridiculous things are sent by parcel carrier…small radiators, etc…last time I did it, one drop was three boxes and a big flat thing up two flights of stairs. They were all bloody heavy like they were packed full of something made of metal. There was no barrow on the motor, nowhere to park apart from double yellows (Norwich City Centre), nobody at the drop helped me (a business, not a little old lady or something). Took me 3 trips from the van and back, the van doors lock automatically, had to get about 3 sets of doors to open on the way up and down…it’s a (zb) joke of a job.
Remember…!! parcels are for postmen…i never have and never will deliver parcels…or even do multidrop…large pallets…on large fork lifts are ok…and as for the crap wages being offered…forget it… i know a lot of drivers have no choice …but i want at least £10 an hour to coax me back to work…£100 a day for 12 hours will get me behind the wheel again (cash of course)…i am surviving on a pittance from the tax payer…but i am surviving…and the only way to get me off benefits is a living wage…and £200 plus i was earning that in the 70`s…where has it all gone wrong.most industrys have kept up with the cost of living…but not transport…most industrys get 4 weeks holiday…not transport…its not in the W.T.D…but our president blair is offering today the working population will get 4 weks holiday…most of the country is on that already…except drivers…mechanics etc…its only the big companies who give their workers the extra week…but their wages are crap to start with…so they are paying for it themselves…ooh dont i go on…only because i care about our industry…and we all deserve better…but who will give it to us…
have a nice day

No Rob, it’s driving for a company called DTS, delivering garments to stores nationwide. I’m 99% sure it’ll be delivering to New Look stores.Paul.
Where are they based? Is it through an agency? Nearly £9/hour for class 2 work in Donny would be a bloody miracle
I haven’t belled them yet but the phone no. that is provided (the ad is on the Job Centre website) is the same Doncaster number I phoned a year or so ago and that was at the former P&O Trans European site 2 mins from M18 J3 (opposite Yorkshire Outlet) which now has the “Wincanton” sign on the building. Whilst on my way to the motorway I’ve seen a few green de-mountable DTS rigids either parked up or an a bay. I’ve never had to de-mount a box before so if that would be required of me then I’m stumped.
The bloke that you have to contact is also the same one with whom I’ve spoken before so it must be delivering for New Look. Employed directly - permanent. I printed the vacancy off to make sure I wasn’t seeing things when I saw the hourly rate. I know (when it was under P&O’s livery) they advertised for drivers, offering around £6.90 - £7.00 ish + a quaterly bonus. Perhaps they’ve simply incorporated the bonus into the hourly rate now
Paul.

Ah yesssss, I know where you mean. I delivered a container there a few weeks ago. I do believe it is the New Look contract, but all I saw there were artics and wag-drags.
Cheers.
DTS have won the New Look contract, I thought I heard something about a new distribution centre in Stoke or was that just for the work from the site they closed down south.

When I spoke to Bill the last time I was down there I’m sure he said that the Wag & Drags (they didn’t use tractor/trailers back then) usually went out on daytime runs, the rigids went out on night runs. I’m not sure how the utilise their vehicles nowadays.
If its the D T S transport i’m thinking of they used to (and I think still do the transport) for a lot of the fashion industry bringing the goods in from the continent ie: Morroco and Romania, where most of it is made.

As far as I know the DTS (Daly Transport Services) you’re thinking of still do the transporting of goods from Morroco. The last time I went into their place in Milton Keynes (can’t remember the exact area it’s in) I was talking to one of their drivers and he said they’d asked him to take a load and collect from Morroco but he flat refused as he said it was too risky going over there. One thing I used to hate was going to their gaff in MK as, for example, my booking would be 1pm Friday, I’d be told to park on the road outside and wait till called. It wasn’t unusual for me still to be parked on the road at 4pm, yet all the dutch “Overdoorp” and german “Deutche Kleiderspedition” lorries simply turned up and were allowed straight in. It was a god forsaken hole. Don’t know if it’s changed much lately as it was a while ago I was last there.
By the way, apologies to PMAC, this has gone way off your original thread topic now! Good luck with the job hunting!
