As the title say’s… about so called professional drivers
I’ve started doing the odd wide/abnormal load and most of them are over 3.8 m wide so i take up 2 lanes
going down the motorway with an ■■■■■■ and sometimes there are 2 or 3 of us, the point of this rant is to
say how unprofessional some drivers are,
I can live with the car drivers honking the horn and giving me the finger but when a so called professional
drivers try to adjust my mirror with the rear quarter of their trailers it ain’t funny, the last 3 runs i have done there’s been at least 6 times when this has happen, and some have been big name firms, I don’t chose when the loads go down the road i just take the load to wherever it’s going, weather it be day or night,
In my opinion those drivers should be disemboweled with a baseball bat full of nails It’s not very
professional It’s at minimum dangerous driving if not intent to use the vehicle as a weapon, and don’t quickley run to your motor when i pull into the services and drive off, grow some balls and tell me what your problem is face to face,
wirralpete:
if i come up behind a wide load i move over to the third lane, give them a wide berth and move on, not really a problem unless the cops dont like it…
It’s not a problem Pete, its one of the things mentioned about using the 3rd lane on a motorway;
You must not drive on the right-hand lane of the motorway if you are driving any of the following, a vehicle drawing a trailer; a goods vehicle with a maximum laden weight of over 7.5 tonnes; a bus or a coach longer than 12 metres; unless you have to overtake an exceptionally wide load
I also class a gritter spreading or ploughing in the middle lane as a wide load and overtake it on the outside!
Common sense on this one. Either use some of the third lane when safe to do so or be a pillock and try to pass in the second lane because you refuse to come off you cc till its safe to move into the third lane. Why some drivers insist on not altering their speed for other road users is a sign to me anyway of bad road craft. I understand your frustration.
Quick question - do you get tee’d off with flashing every bugger in? I have always moved into lane 3 (even before I knew it was legal). It just makes sense…
I think the problem these days is that so many class 1 drivers have only ever been trolley dollies - delivering to supermarkets. Years ago when everything was roped and sheeted onto flat trailers drivers had at least an idea what they were about - now they just thunder about in a world of their own.
i have done a lot of abnormal load work, and i have found that car drivers, and hgv drivers give a lot more respect.
what i do find irritating, is the drivers of some so called abnormal loads, that arn’t that abnormal, but they still have to take up two lanes of the motorway.

Especially when they have dozens of flashing strobe lights.

Having been a full time ■■■■■■ driver (and about to do so again) I have to say this has to be the one job where you see the most amazing things on the road.
I feel your frustration, but the ■■■■■■ at the rear should be giving you a shout on the radio to warn you that a numpty is approaching with some abuse or a poor manoeuvre.
I remember folk undertaking me, overtaking the load only to find a police car sat at the front. About 10 mibs later said car has another traffic car up it’s arse for a little word.
Needless to say no one else overtook afterwards…
What ■■■■■■ me off the most is these ‘self escorts’ using the company van with a wee light on the roof - illegal!!!
Having got myself a fairly large contract for the foreseeable future doing ■■■■■■ work I’m going back into it and with my motors, by god I make sure they are squeaky clean with the law - some ‘escorts’ just don’t realise the responsibility they have and it’s not just a case of following the truck.
