Just a heads up for Bradford on Avon

What with the closure of Cleveland Bridge Bath A36 to all vehicles, the lorry spotters are in BOA with POLICE written on the back of their high visibility jackets.
If you’re over 18 ton and get spotted, they send the number plate registration to the Trading Standards and expect the brown envelope to arrive for a court appearance and fine , on the bridge at BOA there’s no concession for access only or if the artic is empty as that doesn’t count if you’re empty or not .

In an artic you can use the Lower or Upper Bristol road for the Western side of Bath .
For example if coming from Warminster/Beckington/ Limpley Stoke on the A36 ,it’s possible to access the Western side , just don’t turn right to the fire/ambulance station.
If entering Bath on the London Road from the East , there’s a 7.5 ton limit and the clean air zone .

Frankley, as someone who has traversed that neck of the woods for the bit of 3 decades, lived kind of local for 3 (on a canal boat), and in Westbury for 10 years, and who knows most of the short cuts, roundabouts and ‘you shouldn’t really but…’ roads, I don’t understand why trucks want to go through Bath…

I’m talking about through traffic, from the M4 to the South (or up). Just take the A350 to Chippenham. The new dual has taken the strain, and its probably quicker anyway. And you don’t have to go down, and up, the A36 around Limpley…

Harry Monk on here is a boater , and I’m sure you would have frequented the Lock Inn in BOA and it’s famous Boatman’s breakfast, their sign outside used to say if you didn’t like anything on the menu , don’t moan and throw it to a passing cat .
It was obviously tongue in cheek, the guy who owns it was a Bristol fireman until a back injury put an end to that .

I agree, it’s definitely quicker by avoiding Bath via Chippenham. The canal tow path going further out from Devizes is rough and bumpy for cyclists and no path , but in theory, it’s possible to cycle from London to Bristol along the canal.
Bitton steam railway station to Bath is a busy commuter route with some nice views and the pub at Avoncliffe where Kevin Spacey and Gary Oldman used to drink in, is an idyllic location by the waterfall.
Cleveland Bridge being only open to emergency vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists but one day an artic will go for it , as there is room to cross the bridge and I haven’t seen work men on it , but obviously they are underneath the bridge reinforcing it .
My money is on Bogdan from Cheaptrans following his sat nav .
