just a general question

im currently unemployed and i hate it, where i am there is no driving jobs at all. It ■■■■■ big time, i have been to well over 60 companies that are over 1 hours drive, i keep following them up too but there is just nothing going.

i would work for free just to get a job in class 1, its driving me nuts lol

Maybe time to move then Chap…

Just an idea, working for nothing is what really “■■■■■”

necronick7:
found out the actros is just under 11 mpg fully loaded

so if you did at most 200 miles 5 days a week at say £1.40 per mile, in one year (260 days) thats about £70,000.

with other costs and stuff of that for the year, fuel etc.

Say it gets to about 45% outgoing thats still just over £30,000 income and thats just 1 truck.

Does that work out? … im not a OD or anything like that so i dont really have any first hand exp.

i sympathise with your problem trying to find work, but believe me you are not even in the right ballpark thinking thats how costs and revenue work for a transport business. however my advice is no matter how hard it is finding a job c+e or otherwise keep trying and sooner or later somthing will turn up.

good luck, buddy

hi guys
i am a trucker in Botswana. My family lives in Bolton and i considered buying a unit and having it work as asub with a company in uk whilst i work in botswana.

just for research i contacted a company advertised in a magazine and they were like they try to give their subbies £400-450 per shift.I enquired what exactly a shift meant and they said per day.Is that a reasonable expectation and what kind of mileage would you have to do too achieve this.

here in botswana there is so much competition that we drive 900kms return to make that kind of money sumtimes a bit more if we have a backhaul.

any feedback would be appreciated. :unamused:

necronick7:
I mean Driving jobs, is there driving class 1 and 2 jobs/contracts? if yes, then what type of work is it and how well does it pay if your an owner driver?

Are you covertly researching for a school project and are actually aged 14?

Take a look at Stobart’s subbie offer…sounds right up your street.

Get in there mate - £450 a shift sounds good to me. Easy money.

Will you be bringing yer wagon over from Botswana like?

hi scanny fanny

thanks for your reply,If you read my post i was enquiring as to the legitimacy of such claim,i am not the type to jump into something based on a maybe. If i can afford to import a truck from uk to Botswana then i surely can afford to buy one to use in the uk.

Where do you live nick? Maybe someone will know of a job going. Soz for being a bit brief earlier but I wouldn’t advise you getting in to owner driving.

If you haven’t got £10k lying around then it’s a non starter anyway regardless of your knowledge of the industry.

i live in dumfries, i have been everywhere. Up north, down south and from east to west, and thats going about a hour/ hour and half radius.

i cant move as im not in a position to move, i mean i like the idea of having my own truck and stuff but as for going into it at my age and range of exp is just silly. i do however want to learn about the OD industry as its somthing that appeals to me.

If somone on here would give me a job i would jump at the oppertunity tbh, night shift, day shift, tramping, casual. i would do any type of shift to get a job, the job center are trying to get me a job out of driving. which i really dont want to do.

Try Binnings, a mate of mine just left there, so there should be a job available.

wheres binnings?

Heathhall, round the corner from Gates Power Transmission as if you were heading for the Nationwide crash repair place. They also have a place in Carlisle I think (or used to), and also trade as Nelsons.

They are a removals firm, but do a lot of general haulage as well, mainly part loads and individual pallets.

thanks ill give them a try.

5.2% pay rise for the workshy in April. :smiling_imp:

Yes, it’s bizarre. In December 2007 there were 1.61 million workshy people, in December 2011 there were 2.69 million workshy people. I wonder what happened to make over a million people become workshy?

awjenkinson.co.uk/

Could try these, don’t know if they’re taking on but they have a large fleet & would tramp you all week. If you’re set on the owner driving gig then you could set the ball rolling by at least getting your certificate of professional competence, be a feather in your cap even if you don’t persue it and you can study from home/your cab. ocr.org.uk/qualifications/ty … pc/nrh_l3/

Then just save up 12k and eddie may take you on running for jenks out of penrith or tauts from carlisle.

I read your post mate (stupidly) and frankly it was hilarious! Guys who have worked all their lives in the UK in the haulage industry post here daily and are currently finding work tighter and tougher than it’s ever been but we now have the pleasure of you posting from Botswana ready to cut their grass.

And you expect to be taken seriously?

Family in Bolton? Might be an idea to get them to give you a reality check before any more posting about working here as an O/D whilst still running an operation in Botswana.

Everything you say sounds like a wind up.

:imp: hi scanny

is there spmething wrong with someone trying to make a living without an ■■■ like yourself running them down.instead of worrying about someone cutting your grass your time might be better spent trying to better your business strategy and marketing abilities.I dont think youve heard about globalisation pal,the world is shrinking and small minded people will soon be relegated to the ranks of the useless unless you shape up.I have family in bolton and guess what they employ like 30 people and inspite of the recession are expanding their business-mind you its a manufacturing business not retail.lastly if you dont like what i say then simple dont read bro. :imp:
