just a general question

what type of work is in most demand at the minute in this current economic climate?

Also what type of work pays gives the best money in this current economic climate?

Nick

Are you asking as a driver, or as an owner-driver?

The best paying work is weekend night tramping for Stobarts as an employed driver

Downside being very long hours.

ive got into waste paper on a walking floor more over the last year and its good steady work paying reasonable rates, i hope ive not tempted fate now that ive said that.

im just wondering what is the best for income and work really, no meaning in my question.

what about european work as a owner driver is their much work and what type of work curtain, box, fridge, bulk.

just everyone i talk to seems to say that all types of work in trucking have went down and their isnt much going anymore.

but is the work still there just with lower rates or has work getting thin?

Indeed, but in answer to that question I recon insolvency practitioners & balifs are keeping busy these days!!

Ross.

I mean Driving jobs, is there driving class 1 and 2 jobs/contracts? if yes, then what type of work is it and how well does it pay if your an owner driver?

The RHA recon it costs over £1.30 per mile to run an artic, and with lots of firms offering owner drivers £1.25 - £1.40 per mile!! unless you’ve got some decent ‘direct’ work I don’t think there’s any money to be made as an O/D.

BTW, I was an owner driver from 1977 to 2006 with a couple of breaks in between so I do know the ups & downs of being an owner driver.

Ross.

PS, By ‘direct’ I mean working directly for a manufacturing company or freight forwarder, not the sort of work you can pick up from ‘Truck & Driver’ back pages.

Euro work pays the best long as u rend ember not to get stopped at customs with your mega trl full of golden Virginias finest .on a serious note I’ve been an od for two years so I mite not have as much Experiance as other members on here ,Im doin alright persanaly .ive got food on the table n beer in the fridge, you just need to take each day as it comes some are more profitable than others ,as for best payin work etc my lips are sealed if people new I was subing for a rather large plc and earning 250 a mile there wud be anochy !!!

what about if you had say … the new Mercedes Actros euro VI that saves 11% fuel saving (In the Advert) and a Montracon FST that saves 8% fuel. Thats 19% fuel saving, if you had a good fuel saving truck and eco tyres on a fuel saving trailer then would that not save alot of money, would it not?

Im gunna try and work it out … If the mercedes has 11% fuel saving then whats the mpg? if a standard truck loaded is like 9mpg then can anybody guess what the actros is?

found out the actros is just under 11 mpg fully loaded

so if you did at most 200 miles 5 days a week at say £1.40 per mile, in one year (260 days) thats about £70,000.

with other costs and stuff of that for the year, fuel etc.

Say it gets to about 45% outgoing thats still just over £30,000 income and thats just 1 truck.

Does that work out? … im not a OD or anything like that so i dont really have any first hand exp.

I’m not being funny but just stop, stop right there.
