our office sent us all a txt telling us that we have to watch out when parking at the hollies,i havent been to it so cant say where that is,but got told a car pulls in an takes the reg plate off a truck, they then wait till you leave and follow you, once far enough away, they drive up along side you showing you your reg plate, you think,i must have lost it,and stop to retrieve it,while out getting the plate back and walking to the back to put it back on,the passenger from the car jumps into your wagon and off he goes with it,just a bit of a warning if anyone parks there.
Thanks for the warning, that could happen anywhere, so rather than a warning about The Hollies, it’s a warning about security when leaving the wagon.
Used to have to take plate, lenses and bulbs off the trailer at night a few years back, might have to start again
Very clever, and I must admit if I’m honest that’s one which would possibly even catch me out, like to think i’m fairly switched on as well !!
You know it would be a really good idea to have a pinned topic with these kinds of scams, eggs on the screen and all that, don’t care how clever you are there is always one you don’t know about ■■
Thanks for your post mate.
Have to admit, that is a good one that and bound to catch a lot of people out !
its an old one, but at least the OP has drawn it to the attention of others.
If anyone tries to pull the stunt, just ignore em and drive on
All the more reason for a sticky with all the different scams then

Speak for yourself! I thought everybody knew that anything you have, somebody else wants.
The minute you take charge of a vehicle, you’re on offer. Somebody somewhere is willing to take the chance of getting caught for what your load, vehicle or even fuel is worth. The first time VOSA tried to pull me I kept going until they called the police and when a marked police vehicle ordered me to stop, I did. No bother. I explained why I chose this course of action and that was the end of the matter (for the police anyway, VOSA were a different story but that got sorted too).
I don’t even put my pratnav in the windscreen because people break in after seeing the mark left by the suction device.
Am I just paranoid because I live in London? Could be…
its not just london i was parked in a compound with motion sensing cameras security high fences and only 1 way in or out. i went to see the flt driver to find out where i should put my collections a car drove in swiped my phone and sat nav and drove out they found the people responsible i went to court was given £660 damages and costs never seen a penny of it as the courts just give up

That is so wrong. You did the right thing, going to court etc and then they gave up?!
There’s justice…
If anyone wants the lorry its theirs they can keep it.
The number plate thing is a bit of an old trick, used several times along the A50 since I have lived alongside it.
In fact any car drawing alongside pointing out a problem is a risk, we all know genuine car drivers cannot see a hand in front of them!

I don’t get it.
Surely you would notice the no. plate missing on your pre-drive walk around checks?
Might give a bit of a clue as to the scam?
As I’m not perfect like every body here I don’t do a walk around check every time I stop for a pee or pop into the services, the only time I do one is pre shift, post tipping, post shift, unless I have taken a full break parked up on the road, So in my little world the potential outside the above conditions are plentiful.
