Agency driver. Not always given the best wagon. elec socket not always working. If i kept a lead with a couple of crocodile clips, would it be OK to connect my phone/charger directly to the wagon battery? Or would I just enjoy a brief period of warmth and illumination?
(mains Charger output 5v 450mA)
Those smoke genie’s are a sneaky bunch and take advantage of the opportunities created by improvisation. But you stand a chance if the charger runs on 24v
It would probably easier just to get one of those power bank thingies.

The wife got me one the other month, comes in very handy, cheap as chips aswell!
Just had mine a month - brilliant. Yes, it’s got a torch built in.
Don’t leave home without it. Essential for cab hopping, agency etc.
I wouldn’t use croc clips to connect to the battery of a vehicle which I was going to drive for a few hours. One of the clips only has to move a bit due to vibration and - instant arc welder followed by some combination of burning insulation and/or self-destructing battery…
Croc clips would be a fire in waiting. Do you have a tail lift power socket? If so you could use a liberated/salvaged/otherwise acquired connector of the same kind to make a secure fitting. The other thing you should have would be a fuse in the line as close to the connection as you can get. That would be to protect the cable from overheating and starting a fire.
TBH getting the socket fixed or the power bank is so much easier.
Charge the phone overnight at home

My “old type” phone will last for about 3 days on a full charge.
progress eh?
Is that right about croc clips being dangerous if vibrated off?
I run my microwave with croc clips on the + and - starting point terminals on my Actros when parked up. However sometimes I will stop 5 mins before and run to the park with the terminals on and microwave cooking.
I was in blissful ignorance not realising it was dangerous
, electrics are not my strong point…as you have seen
, so thanks for the tip.
If you don’t know, don’t do it.
If you do connect something directly to the battery, without fuse protection it will catch fire. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but it will.
not true, of you connect something to the battery without a fues AND SOMETHING GOES WRONG it will catch fire… maybe not today etc etc
Lidl have power banks in at the moment , I bought one its great Especially as I have an I phone 5 and the battery life is dire
Think it was about 7 or 8 quid .
