Junction 5 M60 no exit for HGVs

To all drivers not in Manchester area:

Junction 5 on M60, there is no exit for HGVs anticlockwise from March 31st (this Monday) until… get this… DECEMBER 2009!!! The matrix signs have been warning of this for a couple of days now.
No HGVs can go down that slip towards the M56 from Monday. Pain in the proverbial…

Think I will be going from Trafford Park through Irlam to the M6 from now on. Will add 10-15 mins to journey.

Any idea of the reason for closure?

Cheers

thanks mate

Yeah it could be to do with the bridge supports being clobbered ( You go under the M60) by numerous trucks… they have constructed a concrete wall 4 ft high on the sharp right hand bend as you swing a right and back up and onto the M56 Chester bound…

Alternative routes either as said A57 through Irlam onto M6 ( Off J11 M60)

Or M62 West bound and drop onto the M6( Off J12 M60)

Or A56 West bound through Sale/Bowdon ( Off J7 M60 )

All depending on personal choice …
Personally i would take the M62 option especially for the artics

If the wheels are a turning … we re all earnin …!!!

Or go past J5, and spin it round at Roscoes Roundabout (forget the J number but its after the A34) then as you join stay in lane and your heading for the M56

Jnc 2, my old fruit , the official diversion route you are well on the ball  , i see fun and games for months to come,

Think it’s for bridge strengthening like the jnc 7 Bowden farce,

Not sure how they’ll enforce it unless it’s via a width reduction or some kind of Wims enforcement like vosa, but i doubt that.

there putting a 6 foot 6 widh restriction in i think

That excludes my missus using it then, driving a ford Ka she’d go through it like a pinball    .

Yes, there is now a 6’6" width restriction in place, signs are up.
I have been going through Irlam to the M6.
Bridge strengthening I believe.

Confirmed, it’s the bridge that’s gone too weak. for your information, the top of the M53 “flyover” bit is also suspect. (ie. just before you get to the tunnel, J2 - J1) expect things to happen there also.
