Jonnytruckfest's Training Blog/Diary thing

So as many of you lot know I won the Flair christmas gift to get my HGV training done, which although a big shock made a very great start to my new year and well as its been years in the making it’s nice to be able to say after 20 odd years of waiting I’m finally going to get set on the rocky road to driving trucks  And to say a celebration of this was done at new year would be an understatement

Anyway this will be my training diary/blog/maybe vlog of my stages through the training where people will be able to offer advice tips (or my warning of where to stay clear of when I’m in the drivers seat   )

So far there isn’t much to report for whats happening, I spoke with John before the new year about what would be happening the stages of going through my license and what would be happening. Since i’ve spoken with a very nice woman whose arranged my medical for the 18th of January and have got my stuff to revise for the theory side of things. Also I’ve had a friend lend me some theory books for both Theory & cpc parts so will get my head around those over the next few weeks

Have already had ago at a mock test just to see what my knowledge at the moment is like, which I scored 82 out of 100, so not a pass but not bad for a first go but will have a read up on a few things I’m unsure about  The HPT is going to be a PITA for me as I didn’t like it the first time round so this time I’m sure will be just as fun :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: But as they say practice makes perfect and you can only do what you can do.

But other than that, there isn’t much to report, but am sure it will get much more interesting as time goes on  I’ll probably put the C&E bit in here when it eventually comes to it.

Until then, take it easy folks

A good read of the LGV TRAINING TIPS again might be a good idea …

Indeed Rog, something that will be getting read every other day. As theres always something that I will have missed or forgotton

Passed the medical today, will send all the bits off on Monday morning. Still revising for the theory tests etc getting passes on the mock tests now lowest I seem to be getting is about 87, and the HPT clips I seem to be scoring between 3-5 on most. So I reckon it’s to touch up on the CPC mod 2 part then we’ll see where it goes.

Now for the silly question time but am I right in assuming I send both parts of my driving license away with the medical forms? Or is it just the photo license I send away?

One step closer now :sunglasses:

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

hi jonny

you do have to send your paper license and your photocard with the d4 medical form, good luck with your training.

justin

Well done jonny.i hope it works out for you and you get behind the wheel asap

Thanks for that  And I’m hoping to be out the office and in the driver seat before christmas, but we’ll see

Cheers

Bit of an update, not much too exciting so far. License has come back with no issue.

Theory & HPT has been booked for the 22nd of this month. Once that has been passed I shall be booking the Mod 2. It will give me a chance to get the theory stuff out the way before doing a little revision for that as I understand the mod 2 is mainly common sense but I’d like to take things one step at a time.

Been revising my theory the past couple weeks using drivingtheory4all.co.uk which was set up by flair for myself and had it not been set up for myself I would say it’s a good tool to invest some money into to help you pass, as for each question you get wrong you can bob it into a ‘bank’ of questions including ones you get stuck on and you can revise through them. How I’ve been revising is do a few modules in one sitting, then test myself the day after to make sure it keeps in my head, then revise a few more testing myself on all the revised topics the day after and following it on making sure I keep my brain working

The Hazard perception, I’ve gone through a few clips all scoring between 4 - 5 points so I’d like to think that’s a fairly straight forward thing for me…quite silly to think that was the most challenging part of my car theory test :open_mouth:

Bring it on as the saying goes

If you’ve got an iphone then get the truck theory test app.
And pay for the extra questions.
then when you’ve got 20 minutes, do a test.
Worked for me.
Think I got 97/100…

HPT ■■■■■. Nothing like real life. I got 1 point over the pass mark.
Been driving cars and bikes for 20 years and never had an accident so I must be able to perceive hazards and avoid them…

Well todays results day and its a half and half moment unfortunately! Passed my multiple choice no problem at 87/100 but thanks to the ■■■■■■■ computer robbing me of 15 marks due to clicking ‘unfairly’ :imp: how that’s the case i dont known considering i clicked when i saw the hazard and used the 2 second rule :imp:

I know i should be kind of happy but i hate having failure above my name! Suppose i was expecting a bit much to pass both tests after doing a 12 hour night shift!

Just means ill be doing my hpt with my mod 2 cpc next time i suppose…bring on payday!

Well having just completed my hpt about 15-20 minutes ago I’m pleased to say i passed with a score of 68/100. So just by the skin of my teeth but a pass is a pass non the less:) so as i have work later tonight in celebrating in style with a breakfast wrap from McDonalds

Next step to sort the training:)

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

Well done Jonny!

Paul

Well done pal,

Nice one Jonny, good luck with the training

Thanks all, am very eager to get started! Just have to sort the dates out to line with work as i can’t get the time off unfortunately but looking to set the dates for tomorrow:)

am now ending or nearly ending my first shift back for this week, so am cream crackered. so until training/test day that’s all folks

Cheers

Jonny

Well done

Good luck with the training go & enjoy as it is what you have wanted for so long now

Thank you

It’s been a long time coming that’s for sure, ive spoken to the nice woman at Flair and have organized or will be organizing for the training to start in the first week of may as I cant get time off work in April and couldn’t really afford to take a few sick days off with my dad being off work at the moment himself

Really cannot wait to get started! Training diary to follow maybe  if i can keep a track of it all!

And a massive thanks to John && the flair training team for making this happen for me

Cheers

How you getting on Jonny

Getting on well mate, as been posted earlier on a different thread im no longer doing my training with flair. Ive decided to take my training closer to home,

Had my first session on Tuesday as im going on a PAYG basis due to money situations. First session went well, in the first 45 minutes it was a case of getting used to the truck and the gears etc. I was complemented on my use of the gears not rushing taking my time etc. First part of the drive we ended up going through hambleton which sent cold shivers down my spine as my god dad before he passed lived there, which made me think i wish he could see me now

I was a bit annoyed as I kerbed the truck once which had i been out a little more I would have missed it! We ended up going through Whetherby where at a roundabout i thought i had cocked up pulling out when a car came speeding round as i had just set off but was told he didn’t see nothing wrong so maybe just me  Although i did have a couple drawbacks at roundabouts making a few ■■■■ ups, came to a set of lights that was green I had kept going as it wasn’t a junction and saw no pedestrians that changed I slammed on which I wasn’t thanked for one bit

But in all i did well, use of gears not a problem seems pretty natural although i do.pick the wrong gear from time to time but usually when I start to turn into captain panic! Reversing needs work, and just to stay if im unsure, better to get a minor for hesitating than a serious for causing someone to slow down/stop!

Next training day a week today

Cheers

Surprised you never took up the flair free? offer …
