Hi tony,
Joint’s literally started with a horse and cart working out of the opencast mines and iron works at penybryn.the first lorry would,in my opinion, have been along time before this Atki.though that said, this Atki was probably one of the first new vehicles during the transition from jones motors to joint motorways, during the mid-late 60’s.
Regards Andrew.
Hi Andrew thanks for that. Can you tell me what makes of lorries before the mercs ? I know the Marathons ,ERF’s etc but I haven’t a clue what they had. Can you fill in the history for me ? Thanks Tony

Hi Guy’s, don’t mean to steal the glory from the Atki, but is that a Standard Triumph van behind the trailer, with a Commer behind it?
Could possibly be an A35/55 with a Ford Thames behind it though!
Andrew, did you get your DVD pm ok?
Regards Paul

Dad (roger gardiner ) RIP coming home .
My first lorry that I drove for Joints . It was a 1628 with a medium cab with 6 speed box that had like a spliter not a range change box .I have looked at lealets for the gear box and they said it was fitted with a range change Does any one was this an option ? Tony

hi tony,
the gearbox on e689/690 vcy was mercedes’ own design, a 12 speed, six postions with a splitter on each.they were crap.the last 1628 that joint had new before e689 was d38 lwn, that had the 16 speed zf,they were bombproof.as i remember every 12 speed gave trouble, the 16 speed zf was heavy but very reliable in service.
