Join us in celebrating the road transport industry

What a Joke this is

This year’s National Lorry Week runs from 25 to 31 October, and includes events, competitions, information and more. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate our essential industry, its workers and to champion logistics as a hugely innovative, inclusive and sustainable industry.

‘Sustainable’ they mean get freight off the roads.
What’s left is dumbed down trucks used as a short haul shunting service extension to the warehousing sector and dumbed down warehouse labourer/drivers employed as same.

Yeah ? I didn’t write it - it was paste and copied

The industry should be nationalised without compensation. Only those companies with fewer than say half a dozen vehicles should be allowed to keep trading independently.

Been there done that.

The truth is the government didn’t want trucks running loads between Suffolk and Newcastle.
Because they wanted those loads to go by rail. Why invest public cash in an industry that they want to take off the road.
Which is why in the day at best we had BRS 8 wheelers running around the country limited to pulling two axle trailers at silly low GTW, if any.
More often laughable 4 wheeler loads trundling around the place.

So here we are the NZ road transport industry v the unproductive, unprofitable, UK basket case.It doesn’t matter what you call it.

All or nothing ,drivers would have more power to get things better for ALL but it would finish up badly run expensive like most gov owned stuff.

How expensive is the NHS compared to private medicine? (Private medicine which in the UK trains how many doctors and nurses?)
How good/expensive is the UK partially privatised system compared to other countries` state rail systems?
How badly run were those previous systems, or how underfunded were they?

real world example that happened to someone i know…
friend had a sore eye called the quack for an apt as it wasnt going away 2 days for a phone apointment told well take these antibiotics for no more than 7 days. week later no difference just slightly worse if anything. Decided to go up to the local eye hosp was told the only way he could get an apointment was to go in through a and e. took himself upto a and e saw 5 different nurses/triage. all asked him the same questions and then just disapeared 9 hours later he managed to see a doctor in the minor injuries clinic got given differnt antibiotics. 7 days later no change. called the local private hosp saw an opthalmic consoltant the next day was given the proper treatment (steroid cream) and a diagnosis cost £148 and if it needs draining it will be a further £350 that inclueds the surgons time the rental of the theater cleaning of the theater etc etc plus a follow up apt.

yes thats cost him 500 quid where as its free at the point of delivery if he stayed with the nhs. however although i cant quote prices im 1000% sure it would of cost the nhs more than 500 quid by the time he had seen all the parties upto and including the surgery if he needs it.

East Europe had a state run road transport industry.
Then they abandoned it together with the idea of Socialism.
Now they’ve taken over most of the European road transport market.
It’s obvious that a state run rail and road transport system is an oxymoron.By definition they are competitors for the same work.
The East Euro road transport industry would/will collapse just like ours if it goes along the route of large scale transfer of long haul freight from road to rail.
BRS was just a trojan horse to keep the road transport industry down.
