John Pearce Transport. Good or Bad?

Trying to get a new job is proving more difficult than I thought. If any of you guys know anything about John Pearce,I’d be grateful for any/all replies. How hard can it possibly be for a 39 year old class1 driver with a few years under his belt to get a position these days? Time for the knackers yard methinks! :open_mouth:

You have PM mate.

Hi Steve  I’m after tramping work.

There’s always TDW - they’re just about always looking for drivers.

gardun:
There’s always TDW - .

Which does NOT stand for Top Dollar Wages!

That’s why they’re always advertising!

Sorry Hex we don’t do tramping…

Thinking about it we do bugger all

Update on John Pearce rates…

My dad-in-law’s just started there last week as HGV1 on days; job apparently is not bad but the rate (are you sitting comfortably?) is the princely sum of

£6 per hour! and goes up to £8 ph after 45 hours.

He says it’ll do till the agency work picks up; and he’s commuting 30 miles each way! They do get credit top-ups cos my missus has a little brother still at home, but it’s a disgrace really even down this neck of the woods!

Correct me please if I’m wrong but that’s only just above minimum wage these days?

I worked for J Pearce for 2 yrs so i think i know a bit about them

When i was there it was £6.12 an hr for the first 50 hrs then time and a half after that.

Although ive had it on good authority that its now gone up to £6.24 and time and a half (or maybe the £8 bit posted above not quite sure on this bit) after 40 hrs.
There is a daily meal allowance of £8 if sleeping out over the border but only £4 if this side of the bridge (beware they will only pay the £4 if night outed at ross which is their favoured place to park you up for a changeover)

there is also a bonus scheme payed twice yearly @ £30 a month IIRC

Night out allowance is £20

thats the dosh now the mosh…

J Pearce are all about groupage and some of the work is handball though not always that heavy

Be prepared to use the taillifts fitted on some of the trailers

The traffic planner … However i try to describe him it will not get past the auto censor so i will not bother

The boss … same problem as above

If your face fits your in if not you will soon know

Be prepared for 3 am starts on a monday morning and to run in on a saturday
also i hope you like taking 9’s off at home

you will use all your 15’s all your 9’s and probably both your 10’s too (incredibly when i was there a good number of drivers thought it was ok to do 15’s all week as long as they had an 11 off)

Good bunch of lads (dont tell T-Shirt anything as it will get back to the boss)

And life has improved a little there since the fat [zb] of a fitter left and went to Owens in Bridgend (poor buggers)

This of course is just my educated opinion of them all i can say is try it you may like it you always know where the gate is if you dont…

HERE is a diary i did whilst i still worked there
