john james was I think of indian extraction, he lived at the smallholding by the layby opposite northern united pit but I don’t think he kept any lorries there.

He’s beaten me to it! That’s what comes of slaving away on th’allotment all day- you miss most of the gossip & have to play catch-up at the end of the day.
When I went on my nostalgia visit to Richard Reads,I showed David James this thread.Next time I wil ask him if he has any photos. He told me that the old transport manager,Roy Elton still lives local.Rof,He,s another outsider who slipped in and stayed 
Yep, that’s another name from the distant past! I don’t think Roy was on the “localism” course at the pub- he must have had the Home Study pack.
