Hello there we have a 2.6tonne trailor and tow it behind a 5.5tonne, when I started towing it the jocky wheel had been removed, the lads said it had previously kept falling down or getting bent when the combination turned around as there isn’t much room from the back of the truck, so it didnt concern me so I have towed it without with no problems. Today one of the lads marched over to tell me that the trailor was illegal without a jocky wheel, apparently said man was on a course last week about towing trailors and the like and this was gospel. Ive never heard this and towed it any way, whats your veiws on this is there any proof that it isn’t illegal, id love to show him or is he right? cheers in advance
Sound like BS to me but I stand to be corrected. What type of course was he on where he got told this?
Bull shine from where I’m looking as well
Nonsense

It was a banksman reversing course that also had a discussion about trailors, I dont belive it for a minute but would love to show the clever get that it is legal
Sounds like another DCPC job to me.I regularly tow a small trailor andthe jockey wheel got lost got bent andall that could go wrong went wrong. We now have a more sturdy jockey wheel, its bolted on and there is an all important bungee cord securing it as well. There is no legal requirement to have a jockey wheel though they do make life easier when manhandling trailers.
As others, my trailer and bike trailer don’t have jockey wheels, my caravan does but a few years ago it was bent - as described fell down a touch and caught a speed bump - so was useless for the rest of the season, I didn’t remove it until I changed it, but wouldn’t have thought twice about removing it if I thought it was going to fall down again
