Been looking round for a permanant job, mostly on the job centre website and virtually every driving job is agency, so I just happened to search for any job and again all you get is agency adverts. Are agency’s taking over the whole jobs market. All they do is take you on and drop you on a whim , just geting a bit peed of with it all,be glad when I retire

I think it depends where you live (you didn’t say, so people might not be able to help point you in the right direction).
In the central belt (Scotland) I’ve got 3 applications in at the moment (one from knocking doors and the other 2 from DirectGov) with 2 assessments lined up for next week - the other co. (applied via DirectGov on Mon) haven’t got back to me yet. I’m not applying for anything and everything either, I am picking the ones I think I would fancy doing. I’m avoiding agencies 'cos I’ve been there and done that and don’t want to do it again, but as people on here will tell you, some of them like agency work so it’s a case of “each to their own” really. Hopefully you’ll find something soon. If you haven’t already, it is worth ‘knocking doors’ - the old fashioned way.
As said here every week, good jobs do not get advertised, they never have, you either use your contacts to get a better job or you get out there and knock on doors, jobcentre is the las place on earth i would look, its a waste of space.
A lot of non existant bollox on gov site too…all smoke n mirrors…However theres a good job advertised regularly…doing assessments 15/16 November (2013)…be quick

Got my current employ with a very large world branded blue chip company on the Job Plus web site.
Best move I ever made.

This.
Universal Jobmatch is full of agency non-job spam because it’s free & lacks any sort of policing of what exactly is on offer.
Most legitimate Co’s wouldn’t dare to advertise there, you need to have a basic understanding of how it works to understand why.
There is a big scandal brewing inside what we refer to as “The Jobcentre”, & I for one, cannot wait 'till it explodes onto the front pages of the knuckledraggerz meedya of choice.
That is, if there’s room on the front page after Sheryl’s skimpy dress, Simons new yacht, or where Ant & Dec went for lunch yesterday.

Yes they are…
Some of the sites like jobs indeed do have filters where you can exclude agency ads
