Hi everyone…I came across this advert posted by Big ■■■■ in the Drivers Vacancies forum…Does anyone know how genuine this kind of job is or do you have a friend who’s doing this job? If so, I’d much appreciate the info as I’m considering such a move if the money is there.
There is somebody on here that is on for them or doing something very simalier cant remember his user name i think he put some photos of ex british truck working over there
Admin might be able to help with his user name
Watch the film burried and see if you still want to go . I wouldn’t mind a bit of that though. you won’t need to be tooled up to be in Kuwait. I’ve got a mate who’s an English teacher out there. Said it was more dangerous living over here!
Check with HMR&C before you go,as the wages may seem high, but you have to be out of the UK for so many days per year.Ideally get the passport stamped by UKBA to prove the dates to show the tax man.
The only reason I’d take a gun with me in Kuwait is because its cool…back in 1991 Kuwait may have been dangerous…but I know its not anymore I’m really interested in doing it though. One thing I’m not sure about is how long are you out there for? It says flights are provided but is that just one flight at the beginning of your contract and a flight back at the end…or are you on some kind of schedule so during your contract you get to come home for a little bit?

Too true mate. If I went I’d definitely have a couple of pistols, throwing knives and some nunchucks! . I’m not sure how the flights would work either mate. But I know you have to be out of the country for a few months so the taxman doesn’t get his sticky fingers in your wallet. I think that means you can’t come home even for a couple of weeks. I very well may be wrong on that though!

How about just one week at a time every now and then? Theres only two reasons I’d want to come back every now and then…1) So my gf doesn’t leave me and
To carry on with my flying.
I wouldn’t have nunchucks…I’d probably hurt myself with them :S
Just sent a question to 63336 about avoiding tax and this is there answer:
63336: To be classed as a non resident for tax purposes, your absence from the UK must cover a complete tax year (i.e. 6 April to 5 April); you will need to spend less than 183 days in the UK during the tax year & your visits to the UK must average less than 91 days a tax year over a maximum of 4 years.

Not if you fly back into Dublin and get the boat back over to the mainland you don’t
The original company advertising was M & E group, the contract was till december '10 with possible ext till febuary '11.
They had more than enough applicants. In the end they was putting people on stand by list.
Tax as long as you aren’t back in UK longer than 93 days in tax year then your ok but you are still liable for N.I contributions at self employed rate, i paid approx £350 when i returned after 3 years.
With regard to paying tax or not when working outside the UK, I used to do 3 months away, come back for two weeks A/L, 3 months away again back for two weeks etc etc.
It used to work fine, pay tax during the first tax year away but then after you qualify for a refund after your first year you are tax free provided you stick to within the time frames.
As stated though, you wil still be liable for Ni contributions. This is all assuming that you are being paid in the UK by a UK company.
This was quite a few years ago but I dont think the rules have changed that much.
