I have been doing temp work for awhile now and the rate of pay from £10 to £14 an hour. Its good but you get spells when there no work so you end of loosing out to a lower paid job when you work it out. So the perm job needs to be the way forward in getting holiday pay, some break paid during work hours not all. Also career progression through the company my main thing as well.
I have several cards streetworks card, shea water card, cscs card, digi card, manual handling, abrasive wheels, first aid, welding level 2, 3, brickwork blockwork concrete nvq 1. I also have upgraded licences 32t hgv class 2 with cpc and 7.5t with trailer 4.5t. I have my own ppe, dbs check, drugs and drink test as a bonus.
I dont have class 2 experience but mainly 3.5t or with a trailer. I have a clean driving licence now 15 years and I’m 34. I passed my class 2 just before xmas 2014.
I have been going around a lot of big company asking for a full time job. I went to several but the ones that were interested were to a big road works company I just walked in the office and they picked up on my groundworks tickets and experience. Then seen my driving licence and where very interested. Then within a few mins I was in the backroom office speaking to the recruitment. They want to offer me shortly a job driving tar coat sprayer lorry which is a class 2 but on plant so no class 2 needed or tacho. There a lot of work in this but all around the country the job is and they pay for me to stay in premier in with dinner and breakfast with £25 overnight allowance. The pay £8.40 per hour it sounds not much during normal hours. Then time and half after 8 hours £12.80. But night work is £16.80 an hour and there a lot of it at the moment this is why they want me and with travel away. The pay on Saturday time and half £12.80 and Sunday double £16.80. The other thing if the tar coat ever went quiet I could be still doing groundwork so I would always have a job always and would get driver rate still £8.40 no matter what. They will pay for all my tickets and cards to be renew always free. The basic hours would be 40 a week but when busy far more as we know when busy roads. Also they said you get paid 8 hours at the least if the jobs ends early you go home and get paid the 8 hours. There old school in paying bonuses and got loads of work I like the sound of this also I get to use my hgv and groundwork and traveling to different jobs.
There also a Utility firm interested as well the interview tomorrow. It will be a site operative digging and mains laying more then like to start with. Then later either Jetting operative. But they do have hgv tanker jetting maybe later on. The pay £8.50 an hour 7.30am to 5.00pm 40 hours a week. But after 5pm its £12 an hour you would get your own van to take home in the end local work as well. I’m interested in this due to being local work, having your own van and traveling to different jobs and places.
I just had another phone call before about a water treatment operative localish area it will be based on the same site doing Operate machinery, Removing filter media, Installing new filter media, Refurbish and repair the filter as necessary. The hours are 8am to 4pm and £9.20 an hour. The hours and pay sound good but career progress my main issue and being stuck in the same site for life.
There was a 4th job today driver hgv for utility company but needed hiab or machine experience if they were quiet they would have time to train up. But no problem just one of those.
I’m looking for input from people to see what you all think or even your experiences.
