Job going in Oxford

I don’t want to say too much but there is a job on offer on the Oxford jobsite.

it says something like weekend night drivers wanted, £80 a shift and gives hours that suggest the job is a bad-un. What it doesn’t say is it’s £80 a shift job and finish. Some of the jobs are done and dusted in four and off you go home.
It also fails to mention the potential of full time day work once the guy in the office pulls his finger out and sorts out some day work.
It also fails to mention they have taken on two complete novices in the last six months.
And here’s something else it doesn’t say. A couple of the drivers are acting up and you could replace them if they don’t stop whinging.

You 'ent seen me, I didn’t write these comments and you’ve never heard of this site should you apply.

One of the two drivers that have been acting up, finally threw his toys out of the pram last night and jacked after being told he’s got to start pulling his weight just like the rest.

This is after failing to turn up for the previous two shifts. :open_mouth:

So at least one of those weekend jobs has turned full time already.

At £80 a weekend shift in Oxford, you’re going to have itchy feet once 4 hours have been and gone!
“Job and Knock in half shift” is what many will be holding out for in their minds.

People only turn up in the first instance because they believe the spiv who says things like “I can assure you you’ll be home before 5 hours are up!” or "It’s only such low pay temporarily (Yeh, ‘temporarily’ until some unborn child takes over 25 years down the line…)

In these days where the jobhunting public expect the employment market system to always “try it on”, everyone should be looking for defined fair & square deals - nothing less.

If you look on the Oxford jobcentre site, you’ll notice the only jobs on there are agency offering the same full time work they’ve been offering for over a decade and we all know how reliable they are.
If these agency jobs were half as good as the adds claim, why are the same adds being rehashed week after week, year in year out?

The job I’m on about is a real job with a real company that have secured themselves a recession free contract. The stuff they deliver will still need delivering whatever happens to the economy.
I posted this as a heads up for those sick of agency bull and for those newbies unable to pass the two year criteria.

I’ve worked for them since the beginning of April and all the jobs bar one are done in under 6 hrs.
The job entails turning up at the stated time, checking out the truck, driving it half a mile, then waiting around to get loaded, (which is the biggest pain in the ■■■).
After that, its foot to the floor to any one of eight destinations, all bar one in under two and a quarter hours driving, ten minutes tipping, then run back to the depot, leave the paperwork in the cab, jump in the car and off home.
No bosses to speak to, no debriefing, no nothing, just park it and go.

The job I’m on tonight is turn up at 1am, load, which will inevitably involve about an hour hanging around, then a 1.35hr drive + 10min’s tipping then a 1.35hr drive back and off home.

There’s nothing to it, it’s money for old rope. I’ll be in my car and on my way home before 5.30am job done + £80 thank you very much.
