Job advice

Hi all, I am after a change as been tramping on fridges for a while now but want to come off fridge work. Maybe try tipper work, bulk feed work etc to see what suits. That being said is there anywhere in the Northeast that are taking on, willing to train me up on class one tipper or bulk feed work? I am based in the Northeast, had my licence 20 years with experience in general and adr (now expired) from my time in the Army as a tanker driver.
Any advice is appreciated.

After 20 years behind the wheel, I found I’d had enough and quit driving, after a time enough is enough. Though in truth I should have stuck it out a little longer to find something to walk into as I’m struggling to get a job that doesn’t involve driving and due to where I live almost everyone wants you to do nights out.
If you fancied hands on work maybe give Lubbers or Metcalfs a call, there’s bulk grain companies like Halders, Warcup based over Bridlington way.
Look on a map to see how far your willing to commute and google hauliers take it from there, good luck

Thank you for your reply, I’ll have a look. Bridlington might be abit too far as I’m in Gateshead but I’ll see. So what career are looking into next pal?

Brid is a tad far from Gateshead admittedly, but maybe they could point you in the right direction, I travelled from Bradford to Cambridge, I was away for a month at a time so I had a 6 hour round trip, I know a few lads from Leeds that travel to Gt Yarmouth, but again the commute is every 3 - 4 weeks.
Don’t know what I want to do, I’ve a mate who’s offered me a bit of casual work the odd day, but I don’t want to drive anymore, too many ■■■■■■■■■ on the roads, and not having a home life since ‘89 is a bit much.
I don’t have any qualifications other than my licence, and at 52 no one is willing to risk the training they’d give someone half my age, the “investment” . So it’s minimum wage agency work but it pays the bills.

Grumpy Dad have you thought about network rail for a job, I was older than you when I’d had enough of driving and they gave me a signalling job but they have loads of other jobs as well

I’m the opposite to the OP; Ex tipper driver now on fridges but multi drop day work. It’s made me healthier and wealthier.

A couple that spring to mind that run tippers around the Teesside area (if you are willing to commute to this neck of the woods):

Scott Bros (Haverton Hill): Fairly new DAFs and Mercs, tippers, muckaways (HIAB grab wagons), skips (chain and hooklift) and low loaders.

Seymour Civil Engineering (Hartlepool): Pretty much the same as above, but no skip division.

Hello Godzilla, i’m toying with doing the opposite. I did 22 years on general haulage but left the industry in 2011, i work in a steelworks now but i’m getting itchy feet, i don’t like working night shifts which i have to do. And i miss seeing the country, when i left an old timer said to me “you’ll be back, it gets in your blood”

Thanks everyone for your advice. I’m just at that point where I want to try something different. Tried fridge work long enough to know its not something I see doing for the rest of my life. I work for a decent company but I need something more, something i have to think about rather than just driving to rdcs. May look into getting my lorry mounted crane qual(Hiab) , therefore more hands on.
