There are one or two on the site somewhere - trying searching on Woodcock.

I actually have an old Woodcock trailer, JBW12037, which was one of several acquired by W. H. Bowker when they bought Jess B. Woodcock (Shipping) Limited in the 1970s. Because of the carnets, they kept the JBW fleet numbers.

ok thanks for help, john

Hi John. I have quite a few pics of jbw lorries, Scammel, Bedford tm, seddon and daf. as my father also worked for them. If you e-mail me at darrylb1@hotmail.co.uk I will forward them onto you.

Hi Coomber i found this pic on Long Departed Southampton thread, i went to school with Barry Sqwibb who was the son of the founder Jim,they started in the very early 60’s and later became Transport Services and they did do some ME work early on,cheers Buzzer.
PS Fergie47 who posts on this thread worked for Jim Sqwibb in the early 70’s so he may have more pics.

I used to work for Woodcocks in the early eighties. Started with a Leyland Buffalo ,then a Bedford TM (went like a rocket) then aDaf 2800 and a 3300
Ace containers out of Tilbury and later Yang Min out of Felixstowe. I have one picture of my Daf 2800 pulling an O.C.L. box

I did a lot of work for Woodcocks in the 70,s when they were in tollgate road doing ACE containers.I was working for SGH then and between european jobs we would load containers for woodcocks. They had a lot of scammal routeman? then the TM bedfords and sed akt,s.We loaded a lot of box,s out of butlers wharehouse greenford with lucazade.I remember Bill in the transport office office, some of our drivers ended up working for woodcock,Alan Tomlinson,Tony Davy were two of them.Another subbie was Albert Warren who had a scania 110 in woodcocks colours green with a red chassis.

Nice one Mr Ken,one of my dads old yiddle Davis mates drove for Albert his name was Harry Evans who,s nic name was “Harry the hat”,he lived in stepney .He did a lot of swiss for woodcocks.I meet up with him on one of these trips and he was running with one of woodcocks own drivers who had a none sleeper scammel,Harry let him kip in his motor.Am I right in saying one of Alberts drivers had a bad accident in france and ran into a petrol station makeing Albert go skint?

Carters of Woodbridge [CEL Group] had a brief joint venture with JBW which was known as ‘CELWood’, I believe.

Hi Boyzee,
Worked for Albert for a while with Davy Stallman Bob Emery, Harry Evans and others I can’t remember, Albert was a top man to work for, I think it was Bob Emery that had the bad accident in France that finished Albert. I was working on W M Woods subbing for J B Woodcocks, the transport manager at Woodcocks was Chris Hudson, another good man to work with, and my run was groupage down to Lyon then empty to Swiss for a load of Yarn for home. As for Harry the hat a larger than life, true cockney gentleman very sadly missed. O happy days.

My dad gave up driving after yiddles Davis when they were in solebay street bow an he got a pub in hackney road.Harry the hat would do a bit of singing there weekends, his wife Margie was also mates with my mum.I would sometimes meet some of J B W drivers in genvilliers clearing in paris. Thanks for the above ossie D.

Harry the hat (Harry Evans) didn’t just sing in pubs over here, I’ve been in a few Routiers in France and restaurants in Switzerland, when his got the spoons out and gave the drivers a song and dance, had them fits of laughter they used to love it, had more front than Buckingham Palace, a very funny man proud to say I knew him.
