Jeremy vine, trucks v cars debate

ha,ha, that was fun.
they are debating who should have more rights to be on the road, in the current conditions.
the trucks supplying the shops etc, or joe bloggs the motorist, that may be making a non-essential journey?
so there is a truck driver, (parked in alconbury) versus some female woman reporter in a studio.
fortunately, the truck driver, was on the ball, and made all the right points, well done to him, made a good shout for our cause if you like, and when he called the woman “sweetheart”, genius, he knew that would provoke a reaction, pmsl :grimacing:

After spending over 12 hours saturday night working,I know who I would prefer to have let loose on the motorway in these conditions, and it is not the car drivers.
One car drivers asked one of my colleagues why all these trucks were on the motorway. When my colleague suggested, sarcastically, that the trucks should have stayed in the depot, the car driver agreed
He failed to notice that his ‘‘essential’’ shopping trip would have been pointless if all the trucks had stayed in the depots, because all the shops would be empty. :unamused:

‘… who should have more rights to be on the road …’

See through the spoon-fed gumph that is cunningly employed through ‘public interest’ programming to distort alternative possibilities of a better ‘reality’.

Isn’t it little more than the usual governmentally sponsored ‘divide & conquering’ methodology, adeptly yet faithfully employed by nanny BBC to keep us prole’s at each others throats rather than challenge the weaknesses in our inept & otherwise toothless leadership at the bequest of Brussels?

Whilst suitably fuelling his vanity (and disguising his crap knowledge of music), Whiney Vine is witlessly part of a mechanism that Goebells would be proud of

P.S. Society is granted priveledges to use the highways through various obeyances to conditions such as licencing, adherences to the Highway Code, etc. Thus, no-one has a ‘right’.

■■■■ being stuck in a cab with you all day.

The current weather allows the great British Public to indulge in something the British have a great talent in, that talent is moaning and whingeing, it should be introduced as a team sport for the 2012 Olympics the gold medal being an absolute certainty.

The pathetic miserable blame culture that we now live in, where every misfortune that besets us is blown out of all proportion by the media, the B.B.C telling us what we should do, and SKY almost unwatchable. It,s the fault of the local council, lorry drivers, the government, Maradonna’s hand of god goal, the met office, in fact anyone except themselves.

If you go out in the snow and you are not a competent driver and your journey is not vital and you go and get yourself stranded you have no one to blame except yourself. And if you do get caught out through no fault of your own M.T.F.U it’s not a regular occurrence. I should imagine that news teams out and about who interview most people will find the majority will just want to get on with it, the British in general being very resilient people, but they only seem to give air time to the whingers.

Nobody has any right to use the roads above anyone else, but I would prefer to eat and me and my friends make that possible, yet the media never has a positive slant to any of the articles concerning lorry drivers, the same men (and women) who take to the roads in very tough and hazardous conditions. So the whingers and moaners get what they need without a thought for the huge amount of effort sacrifice and determination this involves. So far this winter we have done quite well without any real shortages of food or fuel but we never get the recognition we deserve.

Well said that man! :sunglasses:

Definitely stop the trucks being on the road, especially the fuel tankers…three days and then no-one’s on the road.

Do you ever think that some of the non lorry-driving section of the popultion really don’t have a clue…oh, you’re ahead of me…

Yeah ,but did you hear the ■■■■■■■■ gritter driver moaning that when hes grittng the motorways the truck drivers overtake him .
what a pratt, went past one the other day that was doing about 45mph on the m25 and there wasnt any snow on the road or verges .
would he have expected us to wait behind him…dont think so.
then saturday followed one for a couple of miles on the A27 to get up the hills,so in my opinion theres a time and a place for doing both.

J Vine is a Jeremt Hunt!

i thought the lorry driver sounded a bit of a tool, raising his voice etc… going on nation radio admitting to driving up cars arses and flashing his lights to get past
hes typical of the drivers you see 5 foot from the rear bumper of another car, the trucker you see giving another trucker grief cus hes sticking to the speed limit on a 40mph road, the one you always see in a rdc moaning about how long its taking etc.
but he is single ladys, f anyone intrested in him :unamused: but does get angry when his local supermarket didnt have the food he wanted, but i wonder… did he drive to the supermarket :unamused: :unamused:

i thought he didnt put the views across very well, as for the fella ranting on radio 5 , any bets on if hes single aswell :astonished:
so we had a couple of clowns on moyles the other week, now this clown, no wonder people think were all bloody mental :imp:

oh and if he reads this, ive got a non essential trip on boxing day , just thought id warn you

I agree with you dazaster, I didn’t think either he or the guy on Radio 5 owuld have helped chang the image of truckers. I think the woman from the haulage company that came on ner the end gve the best summing up, especially re jack knifing lorrys. Yes there’s a truck that’s across te road, but why is it there - most of the public just see the result and don’t think about the preceding events.

i heard a bit of it and we can’t go on ban the car vs ban the trucks. i was stuck on the m40 nearly 6 hours on saturday and ran over both spread and driving hours. it was chaos near the oxford turn of i had cars trying to squeeze down the hard shoulder and cut in from lane 2 at the same time, then i’m the ■■■■ when i eased into the hard shoulder a bit more to stop that route past me.lol
i think the way forward is when snow is about to start on a major road stop everyone let the gritters do there thing then let everyone though behind the wombles this would allow the grit to be spread and the traffic would grind it in to start it working.

nobody uses the outside lanes, get the gritter down it followed by 10/20 lorries following and bingo 33% more lanes open,
a motorway cant cope with a 33% reduction, and other trunk roads are 50% down …

Minus 47 in Alaska, how do they cope in Candada, when the UK grinds to a halt,on Jeremy Vines debate today they mentioned cars with snow on the roof, that the driver doesnt clear, but in Germany, truckers can get fined if they have not cleared the snow off the top of their trailers, and the German Police are on the look out for this, there is a piece of kit that can remove snow/ice from the trailer roof.

yes a bridge the same hight as your trl    or maybe a inch or 2 lower

Allways get a caller who wants to put everything onto rail,do you think it is the same person all the time

If only he could get all the numpty car drivers on rail :imp: and keep the roads clear to keep the economy moving :grimacing:

You joke, but it’s true, we run at 13’6" and a lot of bridges are 13’9" when it’s been snowing heavily and there’s a foot of snow on top of the trailer it doesn’t half make a big cloud behind you when you go under one

I’ve just read the Sun online (I know  ) There’s a thing about the Prime Minister saying that the Transport Minister is doing a good job, doing what exactly? Is he out in a gritter? That’s the problem over there, too many tossers sitting in meetings coming up with stupid plans, it’s not rocket science FFS, the snow needs clearing, simple, that’s what they do in every other country and it appears to work :bulb:

This current situation is a molehill being turned into a mountain, yes it’s unusually cold and snowfall is heavier than normal, but it doesn’t have to be such a problem, if the roads were treated properly there wouldn’t be so many lorries getting stuck, so the traffic would keep moving and the snow wouldn’t build up again, therefore requiring less grit to keep them open, it’s typical mismanagement, they’re spending a tenner trying to save a fiver :unamused:

As for Jeremy Vine, again that’s typical of the bad attitude in Britain, how can there even be a question like that, if the lorries weren’t on the road there would be no no need for any cars to be on the road, no stock in shops and factories, or there would be no way the cars could be on the road, as there would be no fuel in the garages.

Welcome to Great Britain, the only country in the world where people going shopping is more important than keeping industry working :unamused: :unamused:

Correct me if im wrong but when the first m/way m6 was opened by ernie marples in 1963■■?was it not mentioned that one reason for building m/ways was to help road freight move easier instead of getting held up in towns and cities[or words to that effect]

Minus 47 in Alaska, how do they cope in Candada, when the UK grinds to a halt,

Its quite easy for them as they know they are guaranteed heavy snow and cold winters whereas the UK does not have that guarantee

Would it be wise for ALL Local Authorities to add an extra £20 a year onto the council tax bills to enable them to purchase the appropriate gear to deal with a one off harsh winter and also gambling that next years winter maybe just as harsh? Who knows, but at the end of the day with local services being affected how may folk in the UK would agree to a council tax increase.

On the Other hand you could put it down to the Dept of Transport in which case they would increase your Road Tax by around £80 or £90 per year to buy specialist snow clearing equipment to be used on the roads without the guarantees it will be successful, after all the machine operators would still need to get into work before the wheels could turn.

It’s quite simple for folk to make criticisms about the current weather problems but its something entirely different trying to please everyone
