JCB fourtrac-50MPH!

I used to run Heston Bales on a low loader from near Cromer back to Chatteris but all of this has been done with Fastraks now for at least four years.

One thing that puzzles me though…

I saw one doing at least 48MPH on a single track road the other day, with a speed camera ahead, and wondered where they stand with the law and the speed limit on a single track ■■

Are they classed as a Commercial Vehicle, a tractor or a car■■?

not sure, but the NFU guide to fast tractors says they are restricted to 40mph on motorways, dual carriageways and other road classes unless a lower limit is in force ( it is a 1999 document though!)
there is a higher spec for trailers operating at over 20mph too…

I’ve been giving this some thought for a while now…long b4 this thread appeared.
I’m wondering, for 1 thing, what they are taxed as when used on m/way as they cannot be taxed as “Agricultural tractor”, so must use white diesel & will presumably no longer be MOT exempt as it is the agricultural tractor status that gives the exemption?

I just know this, that the law ( traffic law,Road haulage law,Fuel duty law etc) according to JCB fastracs is as grey as grey can be!!!

Don’t you need a number plate, to be caught by a speed camera  What self respecting tractor has a legible number plate
