They are looking for 2 things. Evidence of instructional ability and evidence of industry knowledge. In my case the evidence is being a DSA registered C+E trainer and having held the operators CPC for LGV & PCV National and International for nearly 30 years.
The 7 hour syllabus must fulfill certain criteria to become approved and would really need to be have the same or very similar content every time you run it.
I imagine you have researched the costs involved and already know the approval fees are considerable.

Good luck with the plans.
Have they ever turned anyone away due to being under qualified?
IME of Guv’mnt’ depts’, where a defined requirement must be met it is usually very well defined.
We have very recently had our internal systems audited by JAUPT. Part of that process was to demonstrate our trainer selection process and to show our Continuing Personal Development procedures for trainers. ie how we make sure the registered trainers remain up to date with new legislation etc.
I have no idea if trainers are rejected but qualifications must be sent in with each individual course approval application.
I would suggest you call JAUPT and ask their opinion regarding your experience etc.
Would you ever be able to make money out of it, if you can only do one per day so 5 a week either cost will be to high that nobody will want to do it or you charge less and don’t make a good enough wage.
Would being the holder of an LGV licence, with 10yrs experience & having completed a full 35hrs of DCPC training qualify me as a trainer?
Clearly not! Driving is one thing - training is another. By all means go through the process to become a trainer but please don’t think that holding a licence qualifies anyone to train.
Sadly the industry is full of people in exactly this position. Held a licence for a bit. Fancy a change. Quick easy money. Can’t actually DO the job - but never mind eh?
I you choose to train to become a trainer, I, for one, would give you all the help I can. Otherwise, please stay out of it.
