"Jack Knifed" HGV in Leeds

Does the media get dumber, or is it just me?

MOTORISTS in Leeds were facing traffic chaos today after an articulated lorry jack-knifed on one of the city’s busiest roads.

The 40ft-long concrete-laden lorry was left stranded at the junction of the A65 Commercial Road and Savins Mill Way near Morrisons in Kirkstall shortly before 10am.

Both sides of the A65 were blocked, triggering “extensive” queues on surrounding roads.

Speaking around midday, a spokesman for West Yorkshire Police told the Yorkshire Evening Post that a crane might have to be used to help with the rescue effort.

One report said it could be a number of hours before the route was back to normal.

There were also suggestions that the lorry’s chassis had been damaged in the jack-knifing.

Bus services affected by the mayhem included the 33, 33A, X33, 508, 670 and 671.

“There were also suggestions that the lorry’s chassis had been damaged in the jack-knifing”

You don’t say! If that’s now far enough for a truck to be Jack knifed, we need to get redesigning junctions!

“might” have to use a crane ■■?
LOL, LOL, Ha Ha…
give me strength…

Need a new trailer boss this one buggered!

Do drivers get dumber or is it just me?

A reporter would not have a clue what he or she was lucking at just the same as 99% of the general public, it’s just a story that will be forgotten tomorrow by everyone but the driver.

Looks to me like the road collapsed

Nope, trailer is broke

I’d say it was the trailer that collapsed

He wasn’t going far anyway with all those bloody cones strewn about the place

I think that they will need a crane,I wouldnt fancy hand balling that lot.

Just read the story and looked again at the photo, I’d say you are right.

H&S will be all over this …
On top of a load with
No hard hat
No fall restraint system
No fall mats

Jezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :unamused:

Thankfully you can’t see his comfy driving slippers.

To my uneducated eyes, just wind the legs up a bit more and drive on :open_mouth:

It looks like a special type of trailer which can be extended to suit extra long loads , but !!! if you look at the number of axles and I suspect a very heavy load and at the same time pulling out or reversing into the deliver point , considerable !!! stress would be placed on the trailer with little or no give and tyre scrub on the trailer axles and tyres , the result is obvious !!!.

Think you’ll find he’s put the legs down to help support while waiting for help. trailers snapped by the looks of it

The placard says Cat 3 so what is that around 150ton? Chassis looks like it has completey snapped in 2 pieces. I’d be contacting the manufacturer and demanding answers and my money back!

surely the point is if an educated person like a journalist is going to run a story like that then he/she should get their facts right

Yeah, I’ll go with that. It’s interesting it’s broke just in front of the securing straps.

Yeah fine until a pork pie in an orange baby grow climbs on top and snaps the ■■■■ thing. Agency drivers. This is a lesson for all - lay off the donuts. Think of the trailers people.

Or did the landing legs dig into the road as he reversed up/ drove down the slope causing the trailer to bend at what would be the weakest point on an extender.

Doesn’t look like he has put the legs down, just that they are now grounded due to the trailer snapping.

I would say it’s got more to do with the fact that it looks like that ■■■■■■■ massive load is only sitting on 2 points of contact on the trailer. 1 over the wheels, and 1 pretty close to where it snapped. I think the front half of the load was being imposed on the point mid way between the fifth wheel and trailer wheels. Just my 2 pennies worth, but I would not be happy if I was the gaffer.
