Rather than hijack the Carr thread, does anyone remember our old outfit? The old man started in 1949 with a 3 ton Bedford and packed up in 1977 due to ill health.During the 60’s we had a fleet of Albion artics, but when the MOT came out the vacuum brakes wern’t up to the job so we switched to Ford D800’s. We ran a regular contract out of Liverpool for a company called Connoly’s Copper Cable, but in the early 70’s they got taken over by BICC and put their own trucks in. We switched to 32 ton then working for various different companies. The trucks I remember us having were Ergo Leylands and AEC’s, Atki’s, ERF’s, Guy’s a Seddon and a Scammel hanyman. Most of the Atki’s and ERF’s were Gardner 180’s but the last two trucks we bought had 220 ■■■■■■■ engines. I remember the old man telling me his favourite truck he owned was an old Vulcan, that ended up in Barlows scrapyard. He tried many times to buy that old truck back but never managed it.
