Iveco Turbostar

Waiting to clear at congertezzo early 90’s

The BJ Myers fleet had over 100 Iveco’s (no more than 45 at one time) between 1985 and 1991.

While most of them were the smaller cab, either 220.30 (until late 1988) or 220.36 (late 1988 onwards), there were also
some Turbostars, all 190.36’s with a mid lift added, except one 260.36, which as bigr250 said, was long and heavy - over
nine tons unit only!

The original tractors were bought with two years service in mind, and in fact some were kept for only a year, but when the
recession arrived some of the later Stuttgart built trucks were kept on Continental for over six years, giving sterling service,
although the drivers seat wore out after a few months! They were a far cry from the original Turin built trucks which were
very shoddy.

An attempt was made to start replacing them in 1993 which the Euro Tech’s came out, but the eight Euro Techs kept breaking down
and the Turbo Stars were returned to the Continental work as they were far more reliable. (the Euro Techs were part exchanged
to Renault for new Magnums at nine months old and another Iveco has never entered the fleet since, except for for hired Stralis
in 2004/5 for a year - they were as unreliable as the EuroTechs!)

I still think the Iveco’s were a marvellous truck - 13.7 litre engine 220.36 and ZF box were great value for money!
