Iveco Stralis - Opinions

Brian J:
The Merc is a far better wagon than the Strallis (IMHO) at least everthing works as it should and a much more comfortable bed.

It would need to be, you could buy 2 & have a spare Stralis for the price of one Merc!!

pile off [zb] just cut 03 plate up. why did they stop makeing fodens got a p reg foden 465 ■■■■■■■ ant let me down for 11 year stralis worst truck ever built

They stopped making Fodens because they were without doubt the worst trucks on the market back in 2005 when Pacar shut them down. We’ve run the earliest Alpha’s (which weren’t a bad truck) to the latest which are unreliable and the most thirsty trucks on the road, on middle distance & local tippers we have struggled to get much over 6mpg out of both ■■■■■■■ M11 420’s and Cat C12 450’s in New Generation Alpha’s from 51 to 05 plate in both auto & manual. (and seen regular low to mid 5’s)

I will grant you the 4,000 series were a good truck, the cab was a bit old fasioned, very cold at night & the worst cable gearchange ever, but reliable & reasonably cheap to run.

Ross.

PS, we’ve just scrapped an 05 alpha and replaced it with another Stralis & the driver is well chuffed.

6mpg!!! You want to have words with the driver!! The 8wheeler foden 420■■■■■■■ I drive at weekends averages just over 9mpg and on short local stuff it does anything between 7.9-8.5mpg

I think the 12 tons difference might have something to do with it, the 420 ■■■■■■■ M11 is a bit out of it’s depth at 44 ton!!

Good point but it’s a cracking sounding motor!
