Nothing wrong with a facelift, as i was telling the wife last nite, heck i will even pay, brighten up the view around here…

Stralis’s look much better imo, than the very dated looking volvos and scanias.

Volvos and scanias dated,! i still got an a series erf at the back of my yard, thats on the to do list one day…all these new motors, oh how the other half live…lol!

We have a 54 plate 4x2 unit bought new and with an elderly (i.e. very experinced) steady driver it is trouble free. We also bought four 57 plate 6x2 units second hand and they have been a very mixed bag. Two have been relatively trouble free and two have been trouble. One of the rogue ones constantly has problems with its second steer axle pointing in the opposite direction to the first axle! Our local dealer seems unable to find out what’s causing this. It has also had other faults and has needed a new rear axle pinion. The other rogue truck has had constant fuel and electrical problems culminating in a complete electrical breakdown on a time sensitive Tesco job. This fault took an Iveco dealer 6 days to repair and could have put an owner driver out of business. Overall our experience of running 5 Stralis is like the feedback on here, very mixed, but we will not be buying any more of them.

I’d still take an early model FH12 (or 16) over any of the current trucks on the market.

There’s a reason they’re cheap and don’t do many k’s. Having said that I really liked driving one but the build quality is shocking.

It’s not often I agree with you RobK, but for me it’s be a 2000-2002 FH16 520 over anything available today, pref’ a left ■■■■■■ 4x2 so it could be sold ‘out east’ and a ‘seller trip’ to see her off.

I think that new Volvo FH16 750 looks better than any Iveco!!

Personally, you can keep the chrome door handles and cab trim, you can also keep all the big power signage on the cab, I’d rather have a plain truck with real BIG power. I remember when I was a lad, my mate had a Mk2 ■■■■■■ 1.1 with RS2000 decals & alloy wheels, I’d rather have a 2L engine & 1.1 badges myself:)

I’d prefer the extra that would be spent on the engine to be spent inside.

Mk2 escorts are worth quite abit, when i last looked cleanish poverty spec 4 doors were going for 3k.

I work on Ivecos on a daily basis and the electrics are ■■■■■ to be honest the looms are cheap tat
They start to corrode and the chassis and attar glens ect ect once they are around 5 years and older
Engine and transmition wise they are pretty bomb proof in all honesty.I personally hate the auto transmition it’s about as subtle as lump hammer. The dash starts to creak and bits fall off.
I was once told that they share part of the factor with farrari and if it’s true that’s were the problem lies as all the best engineers and designers are over at the farrari side of the factory!

I took one.fully freighted to Redruth once. Good on power & great on auto-box, didn’t like the cab but preferred the drive to the Topliners we used to run.

Have driven a few rental ones (6x2). Single occupancy cab is a good idea, but as other posters have said electrics are a mare. There is always warning lights one the dash which is a pain. I only transported shopfittings which were lightweight so cannot comment on pulling power full freighted. (Was 430). Dash is very cheap looking and plasticky. OK I guess, but not my first choice.

well owned and operated a stralis for 4 years on local tipper work was good truck but turbos were bout only trouble had but was pulling hard all time. the thing that gets my back up is all these people that call ivecos usually havnt drove them. if a volvo or scania breaks down ohhh it just a little minor thing if a iveco breaks down well its a major issue.my cousin drove a scania 124 atsame time as i was driving stralis both got them at same time and well he had more problems with his scania than had with stralis. also i had 6 discs in 4 years he had 38 at the last count soooo . and why do all the other truck makers have big garages tooo is it just for routine servicing errrrr dont think sooo.

m watching this, and if nothing else, its a great post,im totally on the fence with this one, personally, im not too bothered about a bit of dash falling off, !its just the main bits that worry me, fasinating reading keep it up.!

Better mpg than a daf xf but shocking build quality as been said. Off road the iveco always needs a pull or shove before anything else. The surge, stop go of acceleration is nippy when cruise control on with a full load.

Best autobox what I ever drove ( That’ll be a pound)

I have been driving an 04 plate Strallis since March and to be honest a great gear box but nightmare electrics, the turbo went last week so I was given another 04 plate and this one was even worse all the dash lights seem to come on at will just like a xmas tree.I went back on Friday and had words with the TP who has now given me an 08 plate Actros looking forward to Monday morning at least everything will work as it should and no dodgy electrics.

V.good brakes on Actros.

I owned five of them, all 540s with Euro3 engines, three I bought brand new, the other two used, I have to say I found them excellent motors, cheap to buy, good to drive, plenty of power, good fuel returns and mostly reliable, I say mostly because I had a turbo go on one, it ran on the oil, went bang and ventilated the block, it was less than 6months old so it got a new lump under warranty and Norfolk trucks provided me with a free hire unit while it was off the road, it wasn’t meant to be free, but there was no way I was paying for it :smiling_imp:

That brings me to the only downside I found with them, the dealers :unamused: Some of them (Dagenham Motors) are so bad words cannot describe them, others, like Stormonts or Norfolk Trucks are as good as any dealer in any network, if the local dealer is a bad one, stay well away from the Stralis

The Merc is a far better wagon than the Strallis (IMHO) at least everthing works as it should and a much more comfortable bed.

pile off ■■■■ just cut 03 plate up. why did they stop makeing fodens got a p reg foden 465 ■■■■■■■ ant let me down for 11 year stralis worst truck ever built
