Iveco Stralis. Any driving tips?

Easy now Pete. Anybody would think you’re in a position to drive a truck yourself. How little they know!

Haw haw

Nobody mentioned the adjustable seat, or the kidney crushers, air bags on the side and back of the seat.
Similar to a rally drivers seat, where you are held in tight.

i guess the next post will be how do i turn the sat nav on ?
honestly i though the cpc was going to produce highly skilled drivers to replace us old ■■■■■ ?

Hoorah, another CPC dig. Been a few days since I saw one

the top half window frames gradually creep outwards making awful wind noise the plus side is you can take a shower in the drivers seat when it rains,if this happens put a large block of wood near the seat base open the window stand on some pallets and slam the door very hard a few times just holding the top of the door frame and it will bend back to were it should be.as others have said the cusor engine are brilliant punching way above what you expect, had a 13 ltr cursor 500 and it went like a train got replaced with a new cursor 10 450 which also went well (for a small engine) and did 1.25 mpg more.the problem with all ivecos is that they drive well some good clever design but thrown together, the plastics are the worse ive seen hence they don’t age very well compared with the swedes or mercs.at the end of the day we get paid to drive what were given and nobody makes bad trucks nowadays…Summing up i think you could say they are cheap to buy but expensive to run

+1.

Watch the trim on the drivers door arm rest. It falls off very easily just by resting your elbow on it. Topping up the engine oil requires you to jack the cab up.

Same as a Renault Premium.

Can’t speak for the older Renault’s, but the Volvo ones don’t require the cab to be tipped to do the oil.

Well this was a 57 plate, I think. I only know it needs to be tipped because I got a “STOP” on my 2nd day working. 1st day at that company. Spent 1.5 hrs waiting in the cold. Bloke came and I was standing by his van getting some warmth. He said “It’s a sleeper isn’t it?” “Yeah?” “Well it’ll have a night heater then!” :unamused:

Fun.

Ok, so you don’t drive in England anymore, don’t tell us how to drive here, you don’t know ■■■■ all about the trucks here now…
You’re getting boring now with the same old ■■■■…

I drive one all the time, typical auto box, thinks about setting off from lights for about 5 seconds before actually doing it. Go well and pull well. Just pray your boss hasnt cut costs and speecced it with a non lift middle axle. Why anybody would is beyond me,but some do. Also the middle axle is a steerer not a pusher,so watch the turn in. If you pick up a trailer and one side of the lights dont work, switch off you lights and ignition, wait app. 10 seconds the turn both back on and they should be working, they have an auto reset, saves buggering about changing fuses. Dont overfill the adblue, it will run down into one of the side markers and cause the above to happen all the time,if it does its a case of breaking the wires behind it.
Other than that it`s a typical truck, built to a cost to do a job and have a hard life. No better or worse than any other make of truck, mainly slagged off by people who have never actually driven an Iveco.

Thank you very much to those who made sensible posts, esp. BillyHunt.

Our whole fleet is made up of Iveco Stralis’s and to be fair I am not in the position to give full judgement as I am yet to drive anything else!! But I think they are pretty good.

Mechanically they are sound and rarely break down mechanically. But as with all things there are bug bears with them!! They can have frequent electrical bugs but generally clear themselves after a while or if you switch off, isolate the batteries, leave it a few mins then start up again and the fault can be gone!!

The bluetooth sytem tends to be very tempramental on the newer models and causes a lot of anger amongst drivers!! The automatic battery cut off kicks in what seems like every two minutes when parked up and need the lights on or listening to radio or whatever!!

Some of the older models with the 450 engines can struggle like mad up the hills when fully loaded and then fly down the hills!! The EBS is pretty good but again doesn’t seem so great on the older wagons!! The beds are not too bad, most drivers take the spare / 2nd mattress and put it on top of the bunk they use, I like to use bottom bunk but some drivers have cabs set up and use top bunk!! Night heaters are pretty good on them, but as I found out last weekend they have a habit of kicking in when they like either though it is already red hot!! Friday night / saturday morning was far too hot for my likeing!!! Not sure if this can be rectified by the “control panel” settings that is situated at back of the cab either next to top book or at the end of the bottom bunk!!

The “cubby” holes are not too bad a size, the fridge could be a little bit bigger but is an ok size for my requirements!!! The seats are not too bad, but for my preferred driving position, to have air in the seat it does not go low enough so I just have it with no air in the seat. The heated seat can be a bit extreme, whereby it will burn your backside for 5 minutes and then it will shut off and not reheat for about 20 minutes!! Why cant it just have a constant steady supply of heat (for the winter months!!)!■■

All in all not a bad wagon, but like I say I haven’t driven anything else so it may be poor in relation to volvo’s, DAF’s etc…
