Spanset to lift the middle axle, that really says it all…
Not quite SS, spanset to lift the ‘none lifting’ 2nd steer axle!! God only knows who’d spec a 44 ton 480hp truck without paying the few quid extra for a lifting axle■■?
I recon an OK truck otherwise.
Ross.
PS, I’d have a late ‘version 1’ F16 520 over anything else on the road.
try driving a merc axor or shoud that be kaxor the is one he of a heap of crap to drive they feel like the back end is going to slid out even in the dry horrible things
Not for me, thankyou…
I had my first ever drive in an Iveco yesterday. It should’ve been called a “Why Me Co” Eurocargo; 55plate 7.5t puddlejumper it was gutless, crap gearchange (5 speed) that seemed as if to get 1st gear you had to push it towards the nearside wingmirror. The trim was appalling, the door handle felt as if it would snap off when I closed the door. The overhead compartment door shook itself open and in general the whole interior rattled at some point. The only good points were visibilty, driving position and the fact I could sleep across the cab at breaktime. Absolute tragedy that ERF, Foden and Leyland have vanished, when junk like the Eurocargo is still around.

Well, yes! When I derided the Iveco I forgot about the Axor, which as you say, is a right piece of work especially in manual form. I had one out today as it happens, I grabbed it because of the snow and all the other stuff was auto. It wasnt long before I was wishing Id taken my chances with a Volvo auto. Snow or no snow!!
Have to admit I get caught out again and again thinking ‘great a manual’ when I get in an Axor before I’m instantly reminded how awful that 4 over 4 slapbox is.
