Well it’s been five yrs since my heart problem and loss of hgv licence and early retirement.
But I was getting bored sometimes… No hgv licence and I cannot be bothered to get it and jump through all the stupid medical hurdles DVLA were trying to impose, and do 35 hrs of penance and get a new digi card .
So I have helped a mate out who runs a manufacturing business , by getting rid of his 11 ton curtain sider that was getting to the end of its life (the driver Had taken retirement). He asked if I could drive it…NO was the reply !
But here is the good bit. I have saved him money and will continue to do so.
Two of the long distance heavy pallets that were the only regular heavy run are now being taken by a palletways type company for not a lot of money in comparison to owning and running a wagon and the rest of the local deliveries now goes by a new leased transit van driven by a new guy part time. And I am doing one long distance to Scotland a week that is not possible to sub out easily . So I wiz up north drop reload and back with about 1100kg. It’s easy , and I can do it anytime on the day /night and all for a very realistic price too !
I am a happy bunny with beer money again.
Good for you mate, back behind the wheel and in a ■■■■■■ (ooer missus ) so no worries about tacho cobblers.
Glad you found a niche for yourself.
Glad that its working out for you.
Just the job. Wish I could find something similar.

It was total Luck…a chance comment to my friend and his missus about the manky old Renault curtain sider to which he Said " I am struggling to find a new driver I like and I probably will need a new truck soon". “So smart Arse how do I save money” "Do you want to drive it "
I sat in his office for a few hours asked lots of questions made a few calls to haulage companies and came up with the new idea. Not interested in full time van driving but the long distance is just great one day a week.
Goodonya.
