Its well worth the wait

Excuse the spelling and grammar I’m Lancaster born and bred.

Been a member for a little while and never really posted anything last time I was on here I was asking usual newbie questions anyways here’s my story.

From the age of 5 I had one dream and one dream only and that was to drive articulated lorries, I didn’t want to be a footballer nor did I want to be a teacher. All I wanted too do was drive trucks. I wanted to be like my grandad leave on a Monday morning and come home at the weekend.

I left school at 14 due too many circumstances so I got myself a part time job in a scrap yard which was brilliant. Bit of cash in the pocket and I got too drive cool stuff like fork lifts, hymacs, scrap cars and of course lorries. We had a ford cargo, a merc 7.5 ton and a foden artic can’t remember what model it was but it was brilliant this of course was all done on private land  but the bloke taught me how too many things and to this day I consider that one of the best jobs I ever had.

I then left there and joined the army as a infantry soldier which was an amazing experience I managed too get two all inclusive six month holidays in Iraq before I was 20 year old. On my second tour I met my lovely lady and after us being together over a year we decided we should both become civilians. (but more importantly I wanted to pursue my dream) before I left in 2009 I managed too acquire my class two and class one which I couldn’t of been more gratefull for.

Anyway I left in 2009 with the attitude of landing myself a job straight away how wrong was I? I applied everywhere got the usual “your not 25 you don’t have 2 years experience” so I took this on the chin and went too a driving agency and did a bit of porter work for a few months. I leant a lot but got fed up with not being guaranteed work all the time. So I managed to get myself on the buses for two years.

Then I ended up on here asking for advice when I was told “widen your area for work” which I did and a couple of months later I landed my job which I have now.

You’ve guessed it scotty boy is living his dream and I’m sorry if this is a boring read. But if you really want too do it stick with most folk spend a life time trying to get there dream job I got mine at 24. Keep fighting guys you will get it in the end.

Can’t thank the guys enough for help and advice on here.

Cheers scotty boy

Good on ya scottyboy, I am the same as urself, it’s always been my dream. I’m 32 now and just starting to make mine reality, due to a wild few years lol. Passed the class 2 there on tuesday, next stop class 1. Good luck

Had may coming out of the forces without getting the initial dcpc because they obtained their very first LGV C1 or C after sept 10 2009 and the forces trainers failed to mention they needed that for civvy commercial LGV driving

You are not in that lot as you got first LGV before that date so just need 35 hours of periodic dcpc training by 09/09/2014

Nice one Scottyboy, always good when a " dream " comes true.
