Minimum wage applies to all working people from the age of 16 and over, sadly it was only a matter of time before some poor sod has to take a minimum wage class 1 job.
It will however simply open the floodgates for other companies to then start to drop the wages for us professional drivers, but i doubt it will do anything as a lot of agency drivers have to pay their own DCPC and won’t get out of bed for less than £9ph…
Being in charge of a 40 tonne truck that in a moments notice can clear a motorway of people and kill most of them should be classed as a dangerous job as you have the lives of hundreds of people around you everyday in your hands…
Personally I wouldn’t work for anyone that couldn’t spell competence correctly.
That arrived couple of years back here in Scotland. I will work for that in a factory if I had too but not driving a truck where I have to pay for all my licenses test cards etc. min I work for is £9 hr general & £11 hr ADR basic. No doubt come sep. If there is a driver shortage money will go up and they will start telling us all how lucky we a getting it £…

This isn’t the norm and doubt it ever will be. Proper bottom of the barrel job that.
Oh not forgetting a CLEAN driving licence, they want clotted cream but are paying for skimmed milk!
They will fill the job without problems, its a great shame but a sign of the times, chances are it will be an Eastern European driver but lets face it there is no shortage.

It is not the truck or the job that are dangerous.It is some of the clowns behind the wheel.They should be banned from the roads then all these people would be a lot safer.
Alot of out of work lgv1 drivers would be spared from crap driving jobs like that, as they probably won’t have done their DCPC, and there seems to be little or no point in them spending /borrowing money to fund it if the only jobs out there are sherking out of paying a proper wage,Unless government starts funding the DCPC for those who are unemployed
I take the view… I paid to get my hgv licence at cost of thousands, I asked them for help towards paying for the DCPC which has been refused…
Considering atm I’s not working and on ESA recovering from a back issue, the Job Centre can ■■■■ right off if they gonna force me to drive for minimum wage when I’m ready to get back into the work place
Sadly none of you are taking the haulier into account. You can hardly expect them to drive a base model Mercedes or BMW when having a lower priced driver means they will be easily able to afford a higher spec car to drive around in. 
The DWP has to power to force drivers (and other trades) to apply for suitable jobs, irrespective of rates of pay. Personally I’d leave the damned thing unlocked everywhere

The rate has already been agreed by the ruling coalition, it is a massive increase for a lot of people in Germany, I think they have set that rate to lift people out of claiming their version of working tax credits.
